Mental Health Support Worker

Position Summary

The Mental Health Support Worker provides person-centred support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, psychosocial disabilities, or emotional well-being concerns. The role focuses on promoting independence, recovery, social inclusion, and improved quality of life through practical assistance, emotional support, and community engagement.

Key ResponsibilitiesClient Support

• Provide individualised support based on client care plans and personal goals.
• Assist clients in developing daily living skills, including personal care, budgeting, meal preparation, and household tasks.
• Support clients to access community services, healthcare appointments, education, employment, and social activities.
• Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and positive coping strategies.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

• Build positive, respectful, and therapeutic relationships with clients.
• Monitor client wellbeing and report changes in mental or physical health.
• Provide emotional support while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Support clients in implementing recovery-oriented strategies and wellness plans.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and timely client records, progress notes, and incident reports.
• Ensure confidentiality and privacy of client information.
• Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and supervision sessions.

Risk Management and Safety

• Identify and respond appropriately to risks relating to client safety and wellbeing.
• Follow organisational policies and procedures, including infection control and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations and escalate concerns when necessary.

Team Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with allied healthcare professionals, families, carers, and community agencies.
• Contribute to a positive team culture and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Requirements

• Certificate IV in Mental Health, Community Services, Disability, or a related field.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• National Police Check.
• Current Working with Children Check (required).
• Current driver's licence and reliable transport.

Desirable Requirements

• Diploma in Mental Health or related field.
• Experience within NDIS, psychosocial recovery, or community mental health services.
• Training in trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practice, or crisis intervention.
• Knowledge of local mental health support services and referral pathways.

Salary

Competitive salary based on qualifications, experience, and applicable Award or Enterprise Agreement.
