Full job description
Acusensus is an Australian technology company using AI-driven imaging to enhance road safety and reduce distracted driving accidents globally. We are a purpose-driven team valuing impact, collaboration, integrity, care, and delivery, committed to saving lives and making communities safer.
At Acusensus, we’re driven by a powerful mission , to make a genuine difference in road safety through cutting-edge detection and enforcement technology.
The Opportunity:
This is a hands-on technical role for someone who genuinely enjoys building things, solving problems, and learning as they go. As a Systems Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of designing, building, and commissioning the computerised camera enforcement systems that are deployed on roads across Australia and internationally.
You don’t need to have all the answers before you start — what matters most is your curiosity, your ability to think through a problem, and your drive to find a clean, practical solution. Whether that solution is simple or sophisticated, we care more that it works reliably than that it looks impressive on paper.
You’ll work closely with Project Engineers, Service Technicians, and the broader Delivery team, supporting them in whatever way the work demands. Technical writing and documentation are a key part of this role — your ability to capture what you’ve built or tested clearly and accurately will directly enable the team around you.
Requirements
Who You Are
We’re not hiring for a checklist of technologies — we’re hiring for the right kind of person. Here’s what success looks like in this role:
- You’re hands-on and curious — you’ve built computers, tinkered with systems, or worked in a lab or test environment, and you genuinely enjoy figuring out how things work.
- You find simple solutions to complex problems. You don’t over-engineer; you solve.
- You have strong learning agility — you pick up new technologies quickly and aren’t deterred by the unfamiliar.
- You write clearly and precisely. Technical documentation and step-by-step procedures come naturally to you.
- You’re a reliable team player — you support the people around you and take ownership of what you commit to.
- You’re persistent and composed under pressure — you don’t give up easily, and you manage your own reactions when things get challenging.
- You’re comfortable with structured environments — you follow procedures, work to quality standards, and appreciate clear expectations.
What You'll Do
Build & Commission
- Design, build, and commission camera, computer, and network systems for deployment on public roads.
- Conduct site surveys to assess location suitability prior to deployment.
- Develop and test new hardware configurations and solutions.
Technical Support & Problem Solving
- Investigate and resolve escalated technical issues with camera and network systems.
- Provide remote guidance to field teams and Electrical and Technical Officers.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues methodically — knowing when to escalate and when to persist.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Write and maintain clear technical documentation, system build procedures, and QA records.
- Keep fleet management and knowledge base systems accurate and up to date.
- Train and support installation and maintenance team members on systems and processes.
Maintenance & Service
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on hardware and fleet.
- Prepare maintenance and repair reports following field activities.
- Respond to client requests professionally and in a timely manner.
What You’ll Bring
Required
- Tertiary qualification (TAFE or University) in electronics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, instrumentation, mechatronics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience building, configuring, or maintaining computer hardware and systems.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (switches, VLANs, routers, firewalls, VPNs).
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce technical documentation.
- Full driver licence; willingness to travel nationally on occasion.
- Candidates must possess full working rights in Australia. Pre-employment checks (including driver license history and police check) will be conducted at our expense.
Desirable
- Background in mechatronics, instrumentation, or embedded systems.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems or command-line environments.
- Experience working in a test, lab, or R&D environment.
- Familiarity with networking equipment and infrastructure.
Your Working Environment
This is a full-time, hybrid role with the flexibility to work remotely as your skills and familiarity with the technology grow. Ideally, you will be on-site a minimum of 7 days per fortnight. We are flexible and ready to understand your requirements. At Acusensus, we trust our team to work in ways that maximise productivity, collaboration, and wellbeing, while staying connected to our mission of making roads safer.
Benefits
Why You'll Love Working With Us
- Work that has a direct, measurable impact on road safety and community wellbeing.
- A collaborative, supportive team environment with genuine opportunities to grow your technical skills.
- Exposure to cutting-edge camera, AI, and network technologies.
- Competitive remuneration, including short-term incentive.
- A company that lives its values — Impact, Collaboration, Integrity, Care, and Delivery.
As part of your application, you will be asked to provide a short written response to two (2) questions. Your answers will help us understand your technical capability and problem-solving approach.
