Full job description

We’re a small Australian transcription business looking for two reliable, detail-oriented proofreaders to join our freelance team.

About the work
You’ll proofread AI-assisted transcripts of interviews, checking them against the audio for accuracy. You’ll need a computer, headphones and Microsoft Office or LibreOffice. No foot pedal is required.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, about 2–3 hours per day when work is available
  • Files are usually ready between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm AEDT
  • Monday to Thursday: your work is due by 8:00 pm AEDT the same day
  • Friday: your work is due by 8:00 pm AEDT on Sunday
  • You’ll need to be available on weekday afternoons and evenings (roughly 3–8 pm AEDT). Within that window, you choose when you work.

Pay
$60 per hour of recorded audio. One hour of audio typically takes two hours or less to proofread, which works out to around $30 or more per hour of work. We pay invoices fortnightly.

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent listening skills: you can follow audio closely, tell speakers apart and spot where the text doesn’t match what was said
  • Strong attention to detail: you catch what others miss and care about accuracy
  • Reliability: our work runs to a regular weekday schedule, so consistently meeting deadlines is essential
  • Good editing skills: you can follow instructions and apply a style guide consistently. Transcription or proofreading experience is an advantage but not essential.
  • Familiarity with Australian English: most of our clients are Australian, so you’ll need to be comfortable with the full range of accents, slang and phrasing you’ll hear in Australia
  • An ABN, or willingness to get one
