Job Description:

*6 Months Fixed Term Contract*

Junior Safety Mixed-Methods UXR

Experience: 1-3 years; Location: Sydney

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a curious and detail-oriented Junior UX Researcher to support a safety-focused mixed-methods research programme. Working under the guidance of senior researchers, you will contribute to driver safety studies and user perception research helping ensure that features meet both user needs and NHTSA compliance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Execution & Project Management

  • Own assigned research tasks end-to-end under the guidance of senior leadership, ensuring milestones and quality standards are met.
  • Check feasibility of project execution including timelines and resources and flag risks proactively.
  • Run day-to-day operations of research studies, coordinating between internal teams and the client at key project stages (briefing, progress updates, post-study discussions).
  • Resolve escalations promptly and ensure successful closure of issues, keeping clients and supervisors informed of any changes to project scope.

Research Design & Analysis

  • Design and execute quantitative surveys, discussion guides, and diary studies with methodological rigour, selecting appropriate approaches (sampling, correlational, experimental) based on project needs.
  • Conduct data collection, log analysis, and qualitative synthesis translating findings into clear, trustworthy, and actionable insights backed by data.
  • Identify patterns and trends across datasets to generate meaningful recommendations that are relevant to client business context.
  • Leverage industry-standard eye-tracking methodologies and experience with scaled qualitative surveys for driver safety evaluations.

Communication & Reporting

  • Prepare polished reports and presentations (PowerPoint, Google Slides) that communicate insights through clear storytelling.
  • Actively contribute to team meetings with prepared ideas and solutions and support a collaborative research environment.

PROJECT CONTEXT

This role supports two parallel research tracks for an automotive safety programme:

  • User Research track identifying perceived risk and feature value for drivers, operating on a 3-week testing cycle (or 1 week where desk research suffices).
  • Driver Safety Evaluation track conducting NHTSA-compliant Driver Distraction evaluations on a 4–5-week schedule, with increased sample sizes and structured recruiting timelines.

The programme follows a strict intake process with standardised briefs, progress tracking, and templated study plans, deliverables, and communications managed by the vendor against quality guidelines and milestone reviews by the overseeing FTE UXR.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • 1–3 years of experience in UX research, market research, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with quantitative survey design, sampling methods, and at least one statistical software package (e.g., R, MATLAB, SPSS).
  • Experience conducting small-scale qualitative research methods, including diary studies, concept testing, and usability testing.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Google Sheets, and presentation tools (PowerPoint, Google Slides).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and active listening skills with the ability to surface non-verbal and nuanced insights during research sessions.
  • Ability to leverage industry-standard methods for eye-tracking studies.
  • Experience in driving safety or in-vehicle research is a strong advantage.
