Your next career opportunity
You will provide expert veterinary care and leadership in training that supports ethical, high-quality animal-based research. You will design, deliver and improve competency-based programs that uplift skills across staff, students and researchers. You will work autonomously within supportive teams, influencing standards in animal welfare, biosecurity and compliance.
What you will deliver:
-
Provide high-quality veterinary clinical care and advice for animals used in research and teaching across facilities.
-
Lead animal health surveillance, biosecurity, quality assurance and regulatory compliance programs, escalating complex clinical issues when required.
-
Design, coordinate and deliver hands-on training in animal handling and biomedical techniques, ensuring trainees achieve competency standards.
-
Maintain accurate animal care, health and training records, supporting robust reporting and institutional ethical compliance.
-
Collaborate with facility teams and researchers to improve practices, refine training materials and strengthen animal welfare outcomes.
You may be a great fit if you:
-
Hold a veterinary degree registrable in Victoria, with experience in laboratory animal science and research veterinary practice.
-
Deliver and coordinate practical training in animal handling, anaesthesia, surgery, welfare monitoring and other common biomedical techniques.
-
Demonstrate familiarity with small animal models used in biomedical research, including their health, welfare and husbandry needs.
-
Use high-level written and verbal communication skills to advise diverse stakeholders and document training and compliance.
-
Apply sound knowledge of animal welfare legislation, ethics frameworks and biosecurity requirements within research environments.
-
Manage competing priorities with attention to detail, maintaining accurate records and contributing to continuous practice improvement.
