About the Role
The Court and Tribunal Services Division is responsible for the administration of courts and tribunals in Western Australia, including the provision of judicial support and the enforcement of criminal and civil court orders.
The Court Counselling and Support Services is a directorate within Court and Tribunal Services Division with the responsibility to provide specialised support services to child witnesses, family violence victims and victims of crime.
We’re looking for passionate, skilled professionals to join our Child Witness Service and Victim Support Service teams.
The services comprise of specialist roles, and the attached Job Description Forms detail each position and the capabilities we’re seeking.
A brief overview is provided below:
Child Witness Worker – Perth Metropolitan - Level 2 Specified Callings
- A Child Witness Worker supports children and young people who may need to give evidence in court as a witness or victim of crime.
- Workers provide practical information and emotional preparation throughout the court process and undertake assessments to provide information to the court about the young person’s needs.
- Workers liaise closely with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Police, Courts and other stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualification in social work with AASW eligibility, or a four‑year psychology degree eligible for AHPRA registration.
Victim Support Worker - Perth Metropolitan - Level 2 Specified Callings
- The Victim Support Worker supports victim survivors of crime, by providing trauma informed assessment, case management, trauma counselling and psychological assistance.
- Provide practical, psychological and emotional support including information about court process and court outcomes, witness preparation, court support, counselling and assistance with victim impact statements.
- Workers liaise closely with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Police, Courts and other stakeholders
- Tertiary qualification in social work with AASW eligibility, or a four‑year psychology degree eligible for AHPRA registration.
Regional Workers/Officers – Level 2 Specified Callings or Level 5
- Regional Workers are responsible for the provision of both the Victim Support Service and the Child Witness Service as listed above.
- These professionals must be able to work independently and have experience working with children, young people and adults.
- If you have a degree in Social Work with AASW eligibility, or a four year Psychology degree eligible for AHPRA registration, please specify the Victim Support and Child Witness Worker (Level 2 Specified Calling) position.
- If you do not hold the above qualification, please specify the Victim Support and Child Witness Officer (Level 5) position.
About You

- Resilience and an ability to remain calm under pressure;
- A high level of empathy, professionalism and accuracy in the delivery of information to a diverse range of people;
- Knowledge, experience and skills in working with children, individuals and families affected by trauma.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures.

Eligibility to Apply
Applicants applying for the Level 2 Specified Calling positions, must possess a relevant tertiary qualification in social work with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or approved four year degree in psychology with eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
