About the role:
The Police Medical Officer (PMO) provides expert services and advice to support the operational and recruitment activities of Victoria Police. The position reports to the Senior Police Medical Officer and is located within the Medical Advisory Unit (MAU), Health & Wellbeing Division, Human Resources Command.
The core business of MAU is:
- Conducting pre-employment medical assessments for Police Recruits, Protective Service Officers and Police Custody Officers.
- Assessment of members' fitness for duty.
- Drug and Alcohol Workplace testing of Victoria Police members.
- Specialist Group Medicals as per statutory requirements.
- Medical Advice Line – 24/7 service that advises and supports members potentially exposed to blood borne viruses and other infectious diseases. The PMO may be required to provide advice to the nursing staff during their standard working hours.
- COVID-19 advice to the organisation.
- Health surveillance.
- Other medical advice as required.
Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and support flexible working arrangements.
Your duties will include:
- Providing medical advice to managers across the organisation.
- Conducting medical assessments of recruit applicants and police members in Specialist Squads.
- Represent the Medical Advisory Unit in internal and external forums.
- Provide support for workplace Drug & Alcohol Testing Program.
- Attend onsite meetings across the State of Victoria.
- Working with other health professionals to determine Fitness for Duty.
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Experience in occupational health or psychiatry.
- Highly developed communication skills.
- The ability to work within a team and autonomously.
- Highly developed negotiation skills.
- The ability to work through complex medical issues and provide advice to the organisation.
Further Information:
- One (1) part time 0.5FTE, fixed term (12 months) position available.
- Salary is approximately $240,000 p.a. (pro rata).
- The position is located at the Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
