Full job description
As a Laboratory Assistant, in the Allied Health area, your key responsibilities include:
- Coordinate equipment and material procurement and maintenance for all course areas within Nursing and Allied Health departments.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies for laboratory services and contribute to the development of best practice methodologies and the laboratory infrastructure.
- Liaise with staff and students to provide expert advice, support, guidance and training to ensure safe laboratory practices and techniques as well as managing the laboratories as clean and safe work environments in compliance with appropriate legislation and Institute guidelines.
- Preparing clinical laboratories for delivery each day and packing up and cleaning at the conclusion of the practical lessons
- Carry out safety audits in labs, maintaining and developing safety manuals in labs.
- Work collaboratively with industry to align current and emerging industry needs and facilitate relevant and responsive delivery models that engage learners
- Manage the provision of clinical equipment to meet industry needs for specific tailored programs.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a relevant degree in Nursing, Medical or Science with significant work experience specific to the Health Industry and subsequent post degree experience in a clinical laboratory, or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and or experience.
Crucial to your success in the role will be your ability to provide high quality technical laboratory support with the capacity to develop innovative approaches to management of programs and exploit opportunities to improve the delivery of laboratory services.
The following skills and experience are essential:
- Knowledge of a wide range of nursing and clinical health laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
- Proven competency with simulation mannequin technologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of OH&S regulations and guidelines governing the effective operation of laboratories.
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team within a busy environment, to problem solve and manage multiple activities and deadlines.
- Proven experience with budgeting, stock management and maintenance.
- Advanced literacy and numeracy skills, proven administrative skills including management of databases/inventory in a laboratory.
