Full job description
Take your career somewhere unexpected
The Northern Territory Department of Treasury and Finance is looking for 10+ graduates to join our 2027 Graduate Program in Darwin.
Over 12 months, you'll complete three rotations across Treasury, work on real projects and learn alongside experienced professionals and senior leaders.
You'll build meaningful experience early, take on real responsibility and discover where your strengths could take you.
What you'll get
- Starting salary of $76,155 + super
- Six weeks' annual recreation leave
- Three weeks' personal leave
- An additional three days' Christmas shutdown leave
- Three rotations across Treasury
- Structured learning and professional development
- Exposure to experienced professionals and senior leaders
- Opportunities to continue building your career within Treasury or the wider NT Government
Relocating to Darwin? We'll help make the move easier.
Graduate relocation support includes:
- A one-way economy flight to Darwin
- Up to 14 days' temporary accommodation
- Up to $4,000 in removal assistance
- Eligible vehicle and pet relocation costs can also be covered within the removal allowance.
Who we're looking for
We're particularly interested in graduates from:
- Economics and Finance
- Accounting, Business and Commerce
- Data, Analytics, Mathematics and Statistics
- Law and related disciplines
You can apply if you've completed an eligible degree at a recognised Australian university or institute within the past three years, or you're due to graduate before the program commences.
You'll also need to be either:
- An Australian citizen
- An Australian permanent resident, or
- A visa holder with appropriate working rights
Go further, faster
This isn't a graduate program where you'll spend 12 months watching from the sidelines.
Depending on your rotations, you could contribute to the Territory Budget, economic modelling, financial reporting, revenue forecasting, policy development, legislation, major Territory investments and advice that informs government decision-making. Rotations may include:
- Financial Management
- Economics
- Territory Revenue
You can take on significant responsibility early, with the support and supervision to learn as you go.
Where could your career be in 5 years? Plot twist: you live in the Territory.
Yes, the job is in Darwin.
A move to the Northern Territory isn't just a career decision. It's a lifestyle change.
Less time sitting in traffic. More time outside. Warm weather, incredible landscapes, a close-knit community and some of Australia's most extraordinary places within reach. You could finish work with enough time left in the day to actually do something with it.
Your commute just got shorter. Your weekends got bigger.
Spend your weekends exploring national parks and swimming holes. Head to the markets. Get out on the water. Find your new local. Or jump on a flight and explore more of Australia and Asia.
And with six weeks of annual recreation leave, you'll have more time to make the most of it. You don't have to choose between building your career and having a life outside it.
Go further at work. Live bigger outside it. Ready to see where it could take you?
You don't need to have your entire career mapped out.
If you're curious, ambitious and ready to put your degree to work on something meaningful, we'd like to hear from you.
Location: Darwin, Northern Territory
Program: 12 months, full-time
Commencement: 15 January 2027
Applications close: 30 September 2026
Ready to go further? Apply now.
Please apply with current resume and cover letter in Microsoft Word format only (.doc or .docx).
