Youth Workers in High Schools jobs

Youth Workers will be required to support young people through assessment, mentoring, program delivery, and coordination with families and community services. The role involves developing support strategies, implementing interventions, and advocating for young people's wellbeing and participation.

Key responsibilities

• Assessing and evaluating the needs, circumstances and risks affecting young people, and developing appropriate support strategies and plans
• Providing youth support, mentoring and guidance, including participation in counselling and allied health sessions (as required) to identify issues and implement agreed interventions
• Planning, coordinating and delivering youth programs, activities and empowerment initiatives in consultation with young people, families, and community stakeholders
• Liaising with parents/guardians, community leaders and relevant services to support young people's wellbeing, engagement and participation
• Referring and linking young people to community resources, support services, and government programs that may assist them
• Advocating on behalf of young people with families, community organisations and relevant authorities when appropriate
• Maintaining accurate case notes and administrative records, including documenting activities, progress and outcomes in line with organisational requirements
• Supporting the induction and training of new staff and volunteers on safe and effective engagement with young people
• Contributing to organisational procedures and policies relating to youth support, safeguarding and service delivery
• Assisting young people to access essential supports (where applicable), including emergency relief and basic needs such as food, clothing and accommodation pathways

About you

• A minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or a recognised tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, or Nursing
• Experience supporting high risk youth in a residential care setting
• Australian driver's license
• First Aid Certificate with current CPR
• Working with Children Check (paid employee status)
• National police check (current)
• Reliable car with registration certificate
• Reliable smart phone with data
• Ability to work a combination of morning, afternoon and overnight shifts (active and/or sleepover shifts)
• Previous experience working with children and young people with complex needs

Pay: $80,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
