Fine but stagnant
Cashier (Current Employee) - Cathedral City, CA - 16 November 2023
Work is standard cashier fare. Dont expect to be compensated for loyalty or hard work i.e. pay raises, because itll never happen. Worst part is dealing with customers, but thats not necesarily the company's fault.

Es un lugar de trabajo muy demandante y con poca seguridad
Key Holder (Former Employee) - San Ysidro, CA - 14 November 2023
Es un buen lugar para trabajar si trabajas bien bajo presión, hay oportunidad de crecimiento pero no es muy buena la paga aparte de que no hay mucha seguridad.

Hateful and unorganized
Stocker (Former Employee) - Kingman, AZ - 4 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The Managers at this store are very rude and like to yell at you and get by with it, they are not helpful if you ask questions and put you off like you should know their program, don't ever try to celebrate a birthday or have a potluck because the Managers eat in the office and don't associate with the employees...very hard environment to work in What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Expectations of stocking and cashiering while your pallets build to uncontrollable amounts that become overwhelming What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Alot of yelling at employees and constant put downs that lower ones self esteem What is a typical day like for you at the company? You have ungodly amounts of freight to get out and can build to overwhelming amounts

Fun place to work and store discounts
Warehouse Merchandiser, Overnight Stocker, Cashier, Key Holder (Former Employee) - Norwalk, CA - 3 November 2023
My experience with working at the 99 Cents Only Store in Norwalk, CA located on Rosecrans Blvd. was fun and enjoyable for the most part. Anyone that is interested in working for this company, Store #32 I highly recommend. The Manager at this store is awesome, respectful, encouraging, empathetic, and just an overall the type of Manager that appreciates and recognizes the hard work that her employees puts out. As for the other 99 Cents Only Stores also in Norwalk, CA Store #429, do NOT apply to work at this location. I don't want to relive and express the stress that I've endured while working at this store. I have nothing nice and good to say about Store #429.
Pros
Easy & a no-brainer duties, flexible hours, excellent Vision PPO benefit
Cons
Poor pay rate, no raises, no benefits for associates, high turnaround of employees, depending on store location very poor management and toxic work environment

Horrible
Assitant (Former Employee) - Chino Hills, CA - 28 October 2023
No raises and they retaliate and reduce work hours if you speak up against any leads. The leads take all the good hours and make you work overtime when its not mandatory

Decent first job
Safety Leader (Former Employee) - Azusa, CA - 25 October 2023
It was my first job out of high school. Depending on the manager the schedule can be flexible and accomodating with college students. The staff was great to work with and made it worthwile. Learn to say, sorry no can do, or else they try to take advantage of you.

Respect for other's, Great team work and training. Great communication and opportunities What is a typical day like for you at the company? The workplace is pretty scattered, and it can be pretty hectic and lacking of help.
Cashier/Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Henderson, NV - 23 October 2023
It's stressful going in, and the co-workers (some of them) seem very judgmental towards you by the way they speak and look at you. I learn the most from the customers who come in and some can really make you think about things. Which is a plus. The hardest part of the job is managing emotional distress when it's very busy and customers are yelling and you have to keep your composure.
Pros
They give chances.
Cons
Short breaks, low pay, burnout.

Not a fun place when you don't have enough staff and no one wants to show up for there jobs.
Store Manager (Former Employee) - San Luis Obispo, CA - 22 October 2023
I was a Store Manager and was over worked and under paid for the area I was in. For 5 months I had no ASM and only 2 key holders and that was not good enough to have the large amount of stress that was put on me.
Pros
Have nothing good to say about this company as a whole
Cons
Was not enough pay for the position I have.

Good starting job
Cashier/Stocker (Former Employee) - Ontario, CA - 20 October 2023
Good starting job for someone who is still in high school. Hours are short check is small because at times there’s a need to work 5-6 days at 4 hours. It’s not a hard job but you have to really see management. A lot of favoritism

It’s a paycheck
Cashier (Former Employee) - Yucca Valley, CA - 19 October 2023
Customers can be a pain, lots of theft, apparent lack of communication, old systems that are slow and crash frequently, nice coworkers, minimum wage with the only raise coming from a higher position or by law, weekly pay.

Worst work experience I've ever had
Stocker (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - 19 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The paycheck even if it's not what you're worth. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? They managers have unrealistic expectations. They are under staffed and expect you to do the work of 2 to 3 people. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It's horrible. The managers will talk about you in Spanish if you don't understand it. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Arrived at 3am worked stocking shelves. Manager would bring out multiple palettes and carts and expect them to be done by the time the store opened.
