Couldve been a decent workplace environment.
Tow Truck Operator (Current Employee) - Albany, NY - 11 June 2020
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedCo-workers help each other out everything is smooth for the most part until you get to the upper management that has no idea how the job is done and just loves to bark pointless orders. They don't see eye to eye much and thats where part of the problem lays. You can work as hard as being on the railroad and still get negative feedback.
Pros
Some of dispatch helps out and sees eye to eye.
Cons
Upper management

micro-management
Lead Member Service Representative (Former Employee) - Albany, NY - 28 April 2020
There aren't signs of empowerment as well as the management team needs to be reeducated on what customer service is in the work environment. Seems company is more worried about pointing a finger than fixing said problem. HR is a joke

Productive friendly
Cleaner (Current Employee) - Albany, NY - 28 December 2019
A wonderful group of people including the CEO. The most member oriented company I have ever dealt with. As an employee you are treated as a human which is rare.

One of the worst jobs ive ever had the opportunity to work at.
Dispatcher I (Former Employee) - Menands, NY - 23 November 2019
The job itself is easy, mildly stressful and rewarding but its plagued by horrible management, toxic work culture, and mind numbing levels of idiocracy. The management runs dispatch like a prison barrack. They watch you 24/7 and send pictures of you to your work email when they wanna harass you. Nepotism abounds and i can honestly say. AAA hudson valley is the most toxic place ive ever worked

Chaotic
Fleet Shift Leader/ Tow Truck Driver (Current Employee) - Menands, NY - 19 November 2019
The management does not listen to driver concerns or suggestions to solve issues. Schedule allows for no personal life. An 8am to 4pm shift turns to 8am to 6 or 7 pm. They basically treat you like a tool to get the job done and honestly the pay should be minimum $20/hr you are risking your life on the rd every day. There

Poor and stressful
Tow Truck Operator (Former Employee) - Albany, NY - 9 November 2019
Poor pay, lack of quality benefits and poor management all contributed to a less than desirable work environment.
Excessive hours with pay not commensurate for the mandated hours worked. Disgruntled and unhappy employees further contribute to a work environment filled with bickering, stress, and frustration.
Not recommended at all.

Toxic
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Albany, NY - 7 October 2019
One of the most extreme examples of micro-management that I've ever seen. Managers, including the CEO, do not trust employees to do their jobs properly. They are constantly watching and telling employees what they should be doing, and how to do it, despite not having the knowledge to do the jobs themselves.
They do not respect their employees and the fact that they have lives outside of work. There is zero work-life balance as they expect you to be available for every shift they might need you, excluding regular day shifts since those are always taken. New employees are hired and are provided specific shifts they will work, only to find out after training that those shifts are not actually available. Getting time-off approved can be difficult, and often denied due to being short staffed. Employees are afraid to call in sick since they will be harassed and potentially retaliated against.
Management always knows best and rather than fix the problems they know actually exist (i.e., staffing, morale, trust, etc.), they blame their employees for everything. Turnover is high, and there are very few employees in non-management positions that have been there more than a couple of years. There are no real opportunities for advancement, just made-up positions to make people think they have gained authority when really they've only gained a target on their back.

Don’t waste your time!!
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Albany, NY - 12 September 2019
If you like working for a dictatorship then this is the place for you!! Honestly it’s an embarrassment to the AAA name. Business is ran by someone who bases decisions off of emotions. CEO promotes and demoted people based on who she likes at the time. Clearly not the right person to be in charge of a business. Zero professionalism!!

Bad scheduling and Micro Management
Dispatcher (Former Employee) - Albany, NY - 10 June 2019
The scheduling was terrible, you would be given a schedule a month in advance but it changed every day and with out notice or confirmation if you were not there to see it. Micro management is also an issue, it made me feel like management has no confidence in the abilities of experienced adults. No separation of duty when it comes to department managers, Maintenance and IT managers would constantly interfere with dispatch staff, barking orders or giving direction on situations that didn't require any. Treated adults like children or inmates for the most part in dispatch.

Look Elsewhere
Customer Service Associate (Former Employee) - Delmar, NY - 30 May 2019
Stressful work life. Calling out for any reason, even medical and they will jump down your throat. Always gave the excuse they didn't have enough employees to afford it. Management was two faced. Had a rule no cell phones but they would always be walking around on theirs (not doing work related things). They lie about the hours you will work and what days you'll have off as well as where you will work, they will move you around to many different offices. Do yourself a favor and just keep looking. Oh, and it's only 37.5 hours a week not 40 and they don't like overtime.

Dispatcher (Former Employee) - Albany, NY 12209 - 27 May 2019

Pros

Dispatcher (Current Employee) - Menands, NY - 4 February 2019
There is nothing that is difficult about working here, If you can navigate nonsense then you will be succesful. It can be fun, challenging, rewarding, overwhelming, and boring all in one day. I enjoy working with people to help solve problems and this job is all about that.
Pros
Decent pay, clean work environment, fun people
Cons
Overbearing management

Overall a good employer
membership/customer service (Current Employee) - Albany, NY - 22 June 2017
AAA Hudson Valley is a fair employer that expects staff to be competent, courteous and dependable. Entry level positions have a number of opportunities for advancement and free training. I liked a lot of the people both that I worked with and members too.
Pros
variety of duties, perks

Busy and multi-tasking position
Auto Travel Counselor (Former Employee) - Albany - 2 June 2015
As an auto travel counselor, my main duty was to help members of the corporation with their memberships, and also help them map out directions and give them information on specific travel destinations. I also took payments, I used microsoft excel, microsoft word and microsoft outlook. I learned how to sell and buy back foreign currency, I took emergency road service calls, located the members, and used the switchboard every day.
Pros
commission on top of base pay, working in an office environment with other like minded individuals

They pretend that they're good to their employees
Auto Travel Counselor (Former Employee) - Albany, NY - 14 August 2014
Worked here for a long time. Enjoyed my coworkers and the vacation discounts. There is no way to move up higher in this company. Management is decent but HR is terrible. I had a 401k and had no idea how to work it to benefit myself at no help from HR. The existing management has been there since the beginning it seems so anyone who's in a smaller position just stays there with little to no wage increase. They don't pay fairly either. It's rare that anyone moves from Auto Travel to Travel Agent because they would rather hire elsewhere.
Pros
Decent benefits, good coworkers, company events regularly
Cons
Bad management, no room for advancement, weird hours for office employees

Not a nice place to work
Auto travel (Former Employee) - Albany, ny - 10 July 2014
Unfortunately due to the poor management (not all but most) this particular division of AAA is not a pleasant place to work. The management staff puts blinders on and allows the long-term employees to act very immature and unprofessional which makes it very difficult to remain professional during the work day and deal with customers appropriately. There is absolutely NO teamwork as everyone is constantly stabbing each other in the back instead, it was the strangest work environment I have ever been involved in during my whole working career. New people coming in dont have a chance to survive, the veterans, lie, cheat and undermine all you do to make you look bad to push you out. Again, it's a very, very strange situation.
Pros
AAA is a great service, so selling the actual service and all that it has to offer was easy to do.
Cons
Poor working culture - no teamwork at all!

Not a nice place to work
Auto Travel Counselor/Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) - Albany, NY - 3 December 2013
A horrible place to work. The Management was absolutely horrible. Some members of management got off on seeing people eat dirt. I enjoyed the work and helping the customers. Management was disrespectful to some employees and the culture their is very negative towards their employees.
Pros
I enjoyed the work day and my co-workers.
Cons
Management treated people very unfairly
