Reactive management with no direction
N/A (Current Employee) –  Canberra ACT15 February 2019
Management with a serious lack of knowledge. People not adding value, stifling bureaucracy, individual protectionism and a mantra of ‘we have always done this way’.

The HSE Managment System is an utter joke. It is complex, unusable, inflexible and so far removed from what is acceptable in other high reliability organisations.

Ironically some of the poorest performers have been retained/promoted since the redundancy program in 2016.
Pros
Pays very well
Cons
Middle management with lack of experience outside the company

Portfolio and Program Director (Former Employee) –  Canberra ACT10 January 2019
Reactive Exec. So far removed from what's actually happening in the business. A massive redundancy program 2016 saw 900+/- marched out. Ironically some of the poorest performers were retained. Some of the senior leaders who were the cause of the culture also remained. Good luck to them........

Change Co-ordinator Lead (Current Employee) –  Canberra City ACT8 January 2018
It is a very challenging environment with many non mainstream idiosyncrasies. But, it is also very rewarding when a cultural change that you have played a major role in comes to fruition and is accepted positively.
Pros
My manager is extremely supportive
Cons
Historical roadblocks

This is a great place to work. Since working here I have learnt so many new things, the company paid for my learning at Wagga Wagga TAFE. The people are very laid back and professional and the management is really great.

Worst organisation to work far in the country
Air services Staff (Former Employee) –  Victoria7 December 2017
Air services Australia are a government organisation but with a different agenda they are financed partly by the government and partly by the airlines. They need to provide the government with profit and it is minimal and the company pockets the rest. The money goes into inflated salaries for easy senior positions.

Air Traffic Controller (Current Employee) –  Tamworth NSW28 November 2017
Working in a high stress environment the hardest part of the job is maintaining a positive attitude and being assertive in a workplace where your everyday work is closely monitored. This has driven me to be more ambitious and confident in dealing with everyday decisions. Prioritising and good decision making is vital.

Extremely cuthtroat, with a very defensive and dishonest culture. I left during downsizing and accepted a voluntary redundancy. I would not recommend this as an enjoyable or professional workplace

Takes a lot of time to get anything done.
The designs are bullet-proof mainly because of the Main and Standby paths and the very high system availability requirement.

Dynamic and interesting industry
Coordinator Northern Operations (Current Employee) –  Brisbane Airport QLD13 March 2017
A typical day sees me liaising with the 10 Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Stations from Cairns to Ballina.
I have learned that there are lots of different dynamics in a Fire Station which make it a very interesting place to work.
The workplace culture is at present changing as there has been a big restructure and new systems and processes are being brought in. This is sometimes good but sometimes not when processes are implemented that are not ready to be rolled out.
The most enjoyable part of my job is liaising with all the Operational Managers and staff on a daily basis. I love helping them by assisting them in training and implementing new systems.
The hardest part of my job can sometimes be that I am isolated from the stations.

Engaging workplace with strong safety culture
Air Traffic Controller (Former Employee) –  Melbourne VIC, Cairns QLD18 February 2017
Challenging and engaging workplace with friendly people. Being a semi-government agency some things happen slowly but everything is done properly. A company with good morals, although they have been downsizing lately so job security isnt what it once was.

Documentation Officer (Former Employee) –  Melbourne Western Suburbs VIC2 November 2016
Every organisation has set standards and procedures and its success depends on the strict adherence and compliance to those standards. Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are the essential attributes used to manage day-to-day tasks.
