Toxic Environment
Anonymous (Former Employee) –  Chicago12 February 2019
Everyone is a number to the company and they only care about extracting profit. Despite making tons of money they do not share with anyone except a small group of people.

They treat their support staff like complete dirt. Required to occasionally support oversea shifts and Sundays but don't get any OT, flex days, comp days or anything while generally working a 7:30am - 6pm shift.

Pay does not really equal the effort unless you are around to collect your bonus. There is no set metric or plan for said bonus its just determined on a whim by mgmt.

Zero transparency into what mgmt is doing

Nepotism at the CEO level
Software Developer (Former Employee) –  Chicago, IL15 January 2019
The leadership of this company does not share it's profits, and does not care about you, only how much money you can make them.

Nepotism and favoritism everywhere, toxic environment.

This company had potential, but ultimately very disappointing.
Pros
In Chicago
Cons
Nepotism, poor pay, management does not care.

Dynamic bias and stress. Better firms exist in the area.
Junior trader (Former Employee) –  Chicago, IL27 April 2018
Biased and patronizing management tend to create a toxic and unpleasant work environment. Periodic evaluation of performance is arbitrary and whimsical. Attrition rates are high due to constant pressure from the management to maximize PNL gains. College interns' half life is short because they are treated like some raw material. As a result, FINRA rule violations are frequent, which clearly underscores what priorities the firm has set for itself.

Great Environment, but transparency is becoming a problem
Junior Trader (Former Employee) –  Chicago, IL6 November 2017
There is a lack of transparency between levels of management. Evaluation of performance can be subjective at times before a firm role is given and there is pressure to change when there is daily PNL loss even if it is well within variance. Typical of most prop shops, I would say this is one of the better shops to work at in Chicago.

Good company, high turnover
Senior Systems Engineer (Former Employee) –  上海市12 September 2016
My only real gripe with the company is the high turnover rate. Half of my department was let go a different stages my first year there, including myself.

Pay is good, as are bonus's. Management communicates well and is very accessible.
Pros
Kitchen is stocked really well.
Cons
High turnover in the IT department.

Good Company/Outlook
Junior Trader (Current Employee) –  Chicago, IL18 July 2015
I am enjoying my time at Akuna. There are great opportunities for advancement and independent projects.
There has been a growing disconnect between management and employees since the company has grown.
This company has a lot of growth potential. Now would be a good time to jump on board if this is the industry you are looking for.
Pros
Plenty of free food and nice kitchen, competitive compensation for industry, growing quickly, most of the people are very friendly
Cons
Disconnect between management and employees

Head of Currencies (Former Employee) –  Chicago, Il.4 June 2013
Derivatives Trading. Much of the day is spent actually trading during trading hours and working on strategy and systems in off hours.
