Great Work Experience but It Comes at a Price

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I enjoyed my time at A&M, although it wasn't without its flaws. Similar to any consulting firm, project participation hinges on team dynamics. If you don't align well with a group, you might find yourself without projects and consequently, no bonus. I witnessed a few individuals left in this situation, leading to their quiet departures. Roughly 20% of the practice consistently garnered 80% of the workload—a clear display of favoritism. The remaining 80% of employees had to actively seek project placements to cover their essentials, embodying a competitive struggle. Most Managing Directors were collaborative, yet our group had three who displayed excessive self-importance, prioritizing monetary gains over the well-being of their consultants. My experience at A&M was full of great experiences, albeit accompanied by a ton of stress, health concerns, sleep deprivation, and an ongoing battle with self-esteem due to a few unjust project evaluations. Nevertheless, I excelled on the majority of assignments. Prospective A&M candidates should anticipate a significant effort to get a good rating. Basically, because of this, your life is not your own. You are owned by A&M or be prepared to slowly get eliminated from the firm. The bar is set higher compared to the Big Four firms. A&M represents the major leagues in terms of expectations, billing rates, and problem-solving expertise. Be prepared to invest significant effort.

Pros

Great experience, great pay, great exposure to C-suite clients

Cons

Many all-nighters, be prepared to be a human sacrifice for the client with some MDs, have to work with one or two MDs who think they are God literally (sad but true).

Fun & productive workplace

A&M is a great company to work for in my opinion. It can be quite stressful at times but would say the pay and environment make it worth it as a whole.

Great place to intern

I had a great experience interning at A&M. I was impressed with everyone’s willingness to answer questions, and the internship program was well organized. If you put in the work, it pays off!

A&M is by far the best professional services firm I ever worked for. I have been a partner in a few leading management consulting firms but A&M balances perfectly the executive and operational leadership with the traditional consulting skills that most of our clients need

Worst compevery to work for

What is the best part of working at the company?Being remote I would say unlimited PTO but it’s not unlimited. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Everything. No work life balance What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Full of nepotism and ignorance What is a typical day like for you at the company?Work 12-14 hour days. With minimal breaks and little to no effective training or development.

Chop Shop: stay away

Good technical exposure and that's about it for the good news. You will work as much as 70 hours per week without any recognition or reward unless you are on management's "good side". Incompetent and disorganized Senior Directors and Managing Directors.

Great Team and Smart People

Great management team who recognize people's work and listen to employee feedbacks. Busy in the quarter end but it's the same everywhere in this industry.

Growing company with lots of opportunity

Great company, with lots of opportunity if you are willing to work hard. Friendly team members, and encouragement for employee development. Highly recommend.

Burnout

Be careful of burnout. Management will work with you if you prove your own worth. Depends on the team you join, work/life balance can be difficult.

Great Learning Experience and Interesting Work, but stressful with difficult work-life balance

The Company is run extremely well. There is minimal bureaucracy and pay is great. Hard workers are recognized and there is amble room to move up if you put in the work. However, the culture has a downside. Work is extremely demanding (just the nature of the business) and highly stressful. You are expected to be on call on weekends, holidays or whenever the client needs it.

Poor place to work as no consideration for your time

Very poor place to work people are not friendly and treat you in a bad way as they are under pressure. I remember being told of for a minor thing that was not done.

Pros

Free Snacks and Drinks

Cons

Long hours, unorganised, stressful

Quality of work is bad

High pay, low quality... mgmt just cares about getting work and no focus on quality of work that is being delivered. They pay above market but only real perk

Management can improve

It really depends on your location and team you work with. Assistants are overworked and underpaid and offered zero flexibility. Benefits are very good.

Pros

Great benefits and very generous time off.

Cons

You will never be recognized for your efforts.

Great culture depending on department.

Supportive place with helpful managers and peers. There was an effort to help integrate new employees. Also, inter department collegiality and collaboration.

Pros

Managers and peers were always willing to help.

Work hard, but great company

You work really hard, but overall it's a great company to work for. The pay is good and the bonus is much higher than the industry average. Hardest part about the job is the lack of work life balance.

Work Culture Was Great

Hard work, good pay In the miami office everyone is great except for that mean elderly woman who makes the entire place dark. They have lots of work and expect that you meet the customers needs at all costs. They deal with high end clients that are paying high end money for their services.

Pros

Snacks, Pay, work Culture

Cons

You're expected to kiss lots rear end

Great Opportunity

This is a great place to learn the ropes as a contract employee. They pay very well and train you on the projects. During COVID, this has been a good temporary remote work opportunity.
