Good place to work but be very good at sales

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Good place to work with a lot of progression opportunities but if you are in sales be a very good seller. Management is good at some stores some other ones not so much.

Pros

Commission and sales skills

Cons

Not enough money and low shifts if casual

Would not recommend!!

The pay is lovely IF you get the hours. Unfortunately higher up want you to make target but don't listen to you when you tell them it's hard to make target when no one is coming into the store, who are we meant to sell too? Ghosts? Also not sure if it's the store location but the people who are coming in aren't spending hundreds of dollars on something they can get on marketplace for 1/4 of the price.

Productive and lovely company

The first company I've worked for that listens when you ask for help, management are lovely and the perfect balance of constructive criticism and encouragement, amazing benefits and whilst there are sales targets they are manageable

Not a nice place to work at

I had to watch my back a lot even though i was good at my job, higher management made it a unpleasant work environment, very hard to have meaningful work when most staff at stores are employed only as casuals

Pros

Great commissions

Cons

Unpleasant environment

Extremely stressful. Great for people who care more about making money than human beings.

Great for people who have the gift of of the gab, can be very persuasive and manipulative to get their own way to make the big bucks and have a photographic memory. Not good for people who don't remember things easily, takes awhile to learn things and generally care about their customers.

Pros

Some nice helpful employees. Lovely customers.

Cons

Very demanding, stressful & unrealistic expectations.

Productive work environment

People are really good to work with and are very helpful. Always willing to teach you ways to better enhance your skills and also weekly reviews to show where you are at and how to improve.

A company that won’t be around much longer

Don’t even know where to start. Quality of furniture breaks while trying to assemble it, managers have no idea what they are doing and are rude. You don’t know who to trust in this company, and the ones you can trust and that will help you out get fired anyway. Have seen 4 store managers go in and out of employment in the short year I’ve been at this store. The commission scheme is also rubbish ensuring that with the sales that they run weekly you’re left selling heaps but with nothing to show for it but maybe a pat on the back for meeting your super unrealistic targets. Targets which rely on customers walking into the store which doesn’t happen. Would not recommend to anyone. Not an enjoyable job to have with literally no career path to be had.

Pros

Management system more entertaining than a circus

Cons

Everything

You will go in circles

This workplace was the worst I have ever worked in 20 yrs of retail, all female management with sexism towards male staff members in the form of bullying, humiliation and discrimination a sort of girl power attitude rather than team work store building etc It’s suck up, be my pet or get out Using a bit of reverse psychology was so easy come opening day getting out of cooking on the Bbq (wink wink) Managers are not interested in growing the store, only their own ego and pride (it’s Amart? the worst furniture in Australia) I was a top salesman there, sales were a breeze yet managers would not stop trying to catch me out in my words, trying to exaggerate words or blow things up obviously they were so bored they needed this drama for sick entertainment to fill their day as there are no customers What you are in trouble for or “rules” working at Amart Furniture (amusing) Do not lean against anything Do not walk with your arms behind your back If you Leave an empty box somewhere you will be called on your mobile by the manager on your way home about it? Never show initiative it will be seen as an insult to management who didn’t think of it Every time you start and end your shift you’ll be playing the “manager ignoring me on purpose game” as they have to sign you on and off this iPad you use for sales Your day will be filled much like mine literally walking in circles fixing the same cushions 8 hours a day 5 days a week until your insane, competing for sales even with the actual management who also have targets? Managers at this store will not hire or look -

Pros

Laughing at the quality of furniture

Cons

Ridiculous beige pants

Waste of time

I don’t care how desperate anyone could be for a job, Amart Furniture does not give two hoots about its employees. We are just another number to them. There is absolutely no job advancement, casual hours are constantly being cut with some causals on a max of 15 hrs (still being cut on a weekly basis), management are super unsupportive and you will find yourself doing everything whilst they sit on their phones doing absolutely nothing. Although some of the people you meet at work are fantastic, there is blantant favouritism. Management let their favourites get away with doing the bar minimum whilst leaving others to pick up the slack. No matter how hard you work you will recieve no praise and this eventually becomes very disheartening. Amart does not care about its employees, they are more concerned with making money and making the company seem more profitable to sell it off. This has become more prevelent in recent years with constant redundancies being offered without warning. Don’t bother applying unless you are just looking for a casual position with limited hours.

Pros

Some of the fellow friendly staff

Cons

Broken promises, no career progression, terrible management etc

Don't work there

They don't care about staff.amart it a company full of bullies doesn't matter what u do even going to HR and nothing will happen to them. All they want are robots to work there

Managed by people who have no idea how to manage, no qualificatons.

I dont recommend working there as managers have no idea how to manage people. The rules change depending on who you are. No one is completely happy working in the stores as the Regional Manager is a complete bi polar split personality phsyco path.
