Greedy global company that does not care at all about employees
Cartographer (Current Employee) –  Brisbane, Australia22 July 2015
once upon time there was a small company where all the directors knew all their staff. Employees were treated very well and enjoyed coming to work. Then amec came along - with it a CEO who looked at employees as if the thing before him was something he may need to wipe from his shoe later. He stood on a stage in front of a room and told us all were just there to make share-holders money. If you want to work for a company of greedy pigs who don't care one bit about your existence (other than it makes them money), then go for it. If you care, about anything in this world - environment, culture, work-life balance, family, sanity... than avoid like the plague.
Oh, and not one pay increase since they took over. Not even in line with CPI. In fact, they have decreased pay though superannuation increases (government ruling but some companies have made sure their employees don't take home less money as a result), and sent out a notice to all telling them they have to work an extra 2 hours every week without any pay increase. These really are nasty people work for.
Pros
pay; location
Cons
treated like dirt; pay decreases; staff cuts leaving remaining over-worked

enjoyed my term under contract
Senior Commissioning HSE Adviser (Current Employee) –  Pluto project Karratha WA3 July 2012
As a senior safety professional dealing with both construction and commissioning activities your day is consumed in interfacing with contractor management and supervisor on safety issues and in my case issues related to permit to work system , procedure compliance and ensuring the project progresses safely and productively.
As with any position within the safety field each new project has its unique challenges and one has to be able to work through these and adapt to change yet make changes to established processes to bring about continuos improvement enhancing the performance of the company both from a safety and productivity aspect.
The management team as with all projects is continually changing as the project progresses and this in itself is a challenge adapting to differant management techniques the safety team on this project has in the main been a diligent group of professionals dedicated to achieving a safe work place.
Dealing with differant contractors with differing scopes of work and levels of controls required is both challenging and rewarding which over the length of the project keeps one enthused .To be part of a project team that has worked through the continuous challenges of constructing and commissioning a greenfields project has been both satifying and stimulating
Pros
minimising harm and working with a great team
Cons
long roster away from home
