Could be a really good clinic What was once judged to be an outstanding clinic by AGPAL assessors has now deteriorated into one of such incompetent mismanagement that there are presently four nursing positions constantly advertised on this website. This would sound alarm bells in any organisation. Good staff have been let go, constructively dismissed or put on a list of names not to be reemployed because they asked clinically relevant questions not to the liking of the CEO and which exposed appallingly bad management decisions to the detriment of both the clinic and the community it serves. Tennant Creek has one of the highest incidents of DM 2 in Australia, yet the community was deprived of an experienced Diabetes Nurse Educator because she found herself on this blacklist. Clinically unsound decisions by senior management has seen a person with no clinical experience whatever being appointed as acting Nurse Manager. When staff began to raise questions about this and representation was made to professional bodies, a hasty change was made. This time the appointee (to the most senior nursing position is the clinic lets not forget) is the most junior nurse in the clinic with no previous management experience, The reason given by senior management is that they want the position filled by an Indigenous clinician. The consequences of having an inexperienced junior nurse in charge of a clinic whose sole function is to serve the health needs of the Aboriginal community of Tennant Creek will be to the detriment not only of the clinic but most tellingly to the very community the clinic is appointed to serve. Another worthwhile exercise for anyone considering employment with this clinic would be to go onto the Fair Work Commission website, and you will find that Anyinginyi features as prominently as it does on the jobseekers sites. The company is quite prepared to pay out thousands in these settlements as a result of unfair dismissal of staff who have been targeted. Yet more money is unnecessarily spent on having to employ agency staff ( who are also entitled to free accommodation, something which permanent staff are not) because under present management, permanent staff are expected to start at the lowest salary of the pay scale. Again, Anyinginyi has lost out on securing valuable experienced staff because that experience is not rewarded. If your motivation is to direct your clinical skills to an underprivileged community, where you can make a noticeable difference to that community , where you are constantly aware of what that difference can mean , I can only recommend working in remote Aboriginal health. However you will not find that motivation and commitment matched by senior management at Anyinginyi under it's current administration.
