Constantly understaffed

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Understaffed due to poor pay and work conditions. Residents don’t get what they deserve and pay for which leaves you feeling useless and deflated. Some staff were amazing and went above and beyond.

Great experience

Great place to work. I loved it and the residents.Management handled Covid 19 well and put the residents first. I left due to travel distance. Cons would be its a bit sad sometimes.Workload was high but as long as you are organised it got done.Typical day would be to collect washing from units and deliver it freshly laundered.

Stressful job with stressful nurse.

Nothing special. Mental health always down when a nurse favoured by the manager always meddling your work. Physical and mental drain experiences. With a nurse who doesn’t have empathy to the support worker shows no gratitude and appreciation. Nothing is enjoyable in Arcare. The hardest part is to work with a narcissist RN. Bullying still exists.

Pros

Night duty does not have free, we are not part of it.

Cons

Nightmare with the RN In charge

Flexible hours

I was offered flexible hours when I got into Uni, which was very helpful, and the Manger is very flexible in requesting for time off with my clinical placements. However, morning staff to get favorited and afternoon and night staff seem to be left out in communications, or certain events will suit times of morning staff and not night shift/ afternoon shift

Pros

access to a free leg massage and coffee/tea on site

Cons

short staffed with nil replacements majority of the time

Work Environment

The upper management at Arcare that are NOT onsite are very supportive and kind natured but the management onsite dont seem to be team players. They keep piling more work on myself without considering my workload. It get's really frustrating and stressful at my facility. The finger is always pointing at you when things are not getting done and there is a lack of people skills in management unfortunately.

Pros

free lunch, close to home and some staff are very nice.

Cons

work overload, non supportive environment, always blamed when things are not getting done and they build up more to your workload.

Too many, inexperienced staff who are unwilling to take direction

all Shifts need to be an eight hour shift, there is a lot of food wastage. The menu needs to be better suited to what the residents at this facility like to eat. Money was spent on a pool table that could’ve been spent on a TV for a lounge room, but the residents sit in and have nothing to do in.

Pros

Free meal, if doing a double shift

Cons

Afternoon shift hours are too short

Family hiring family

No support, no further your career opportunities, abuse gets swept under the rug most of the time, no real structure for rostering! A lot of staff have attitude problems and will just make doing your job quite difficult

Pros

Some of the staff are great

Cons

You end up doing everyone’s job

not a good company to work for as over worked & under paid

not a good company to work for as over worked & under paid. Management not helpful and always on staff case about not working hard and you need to do more for nothing

Pros

none

Cons

bad management

Poor management

A very tough place to work in which is even tougher when Arcare only use old nurses as managers and regional managers. They can administer medications but are clueless when it comes to managing anything.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Inability to lead a happy and successful team

Great Staff but poor HR

Arcare has a great culture, staff are diverse and great to work with (dependant on the facility you're employed)HR are a different story, they only answer emails that they want to, being if they underpay you and you want compensation which happens often, good luck getting a response. But if they overpay you expect to hear from them trying to get their money backIf yoy world there make sure you check each and every payslip because they will Fudge it up every time, especially when it comes to overtime, meetings, training etc that you should get paid for

Pros

Great workplace culture

Cons

Short staffed, lots of overtime, no overtime rates, unpaid training, unpaid meetings

Pros

Nothing amusing

Cons

Favouritism

Great culture in a family owned business that continues to grow and be innovative

Arcare has supported me every step of the 2 years since I've joined. The team are collaborative and helpful with lots of opportunities to learn and grow.

Stressful, no support

Worked with great other staff, however high managment turnover due to pressure for head office. Cares more about money than staff and residents, zero flexibility for contracted staff.

Pros

Casual- online app for booking shifts

Cons

No flexibility towards fulltime/part-time staff

Supportive staff

Pros

Productive

All shifts go better with enough staff. I enjoyed working there, Management just need to do a one on one regarding staff assessments as they are generic forms. Alot of time is needed to do computer work but there is a huge emphasis on completing all tasks within a certain time: the physical work versus the computer work is stressful. There are behaviours from overworked RN's.
