Amazing Projects and Ambitions but can be let down by implementation.

Indeed Featured review

Amazing projects and presentations. If you want to work on the largest scale and creative projects Arup is the place for you.I believe Arup is best for individuals that are technical and enter the business with previous experience. I have found they are pretty terrible at knowing what work to give a graduate. You always have to be one step ahead.Sometimes Arup can be all talk about their goals but are let down by their implementation. Put your money where your mouth is.For lower grades the salary is way below the market. It takes too long to climb the company ladder. To retain excellence you have to pay your excellent staff competitive wages!

Experience heavily depends on your manager and team

Arup is a great company when it comes to projects and when you know the right people you might even work on one of the prestigious projects. Experienced a lot of cliquiness and nepotism in my time at Arup where the often proclaimed culture and values are not lived at all. Job security is great at Arup, however, that comes with quite a bit of dead wood floating around especially in the manager level.

a bad company with a stagnant and toxic culture. Their business strategies are just hopes.

A very bad company particularly if you have different views from those preached by senior management. They do things entirely opposite to what they preach. A company with cowardly racist attitude thinking that they are still in UK 50 years ago. Their treatment of females is pathetic and this has been shown by internal surveys but the management plays such down.A company which rewards incompetent staff if you belong to their clique. Its dates are numbered in Aus consulting business due to heavy project losses. It has a very toxic culture and the middle management has to wake up.

Pros

Established company

Great working culture with a collaborative approach to working in a team when working on either a large project or tender. Communication from management can be lost in translation at times.

Great team environment

Great group of staff, wages are about average. Only contract work offered at times which can mean no job security. Some team members are expected to go above and beyond while others are left with hardly any work.

Concern with Employees

Less Stress. I have learned to share and communicate with co-workers at all times. I learned to manage the time to minimize long working hours Can adopt to any environment. The hardest part of the job was when Not giving enough information and the enjoyable was when the work done ahead of time.

Summary

Arup was a great place to work. It had good remuneration, a great opportunity to work on latest projects and had a reasonable work life balance. The hardest part was attending global meetings at 2 am.
