I loved my job, I couldn’t cope any longer with the SOM and his lack of people skills and the company’s unrealistic expectations. They want the blood and sweat from you but don’t give you any support. The way my SOM spoke to me was terrible, I have never worked for a company that treated their team so poorly. If your store is making money you can do what you please, they leave you alone

Overpriced sales based company pretending to be a health centre. The upper management will try to convince you they care and want to help people but the stress they put on the staff is atrocious. The State Managers job seems to be to just send emailed statistics out and when you ask for help the advice is to call another store. When you start they fly in a company trainer who you train with for a week. It's never in the actual store you're hired for. This trainer will be the nicest person in the world and everything's great but its a lie. It's a front. They dont want you to know the truth. They dont want you knowing that the store you're going to has had 3 SMs in the last year. As a store manager you have no control of who you work with. It might be a different casual every day. Your own KPIs are purely $ amounts. You personally have no control in the selling of the device. Your job is to get the customer to see the audiologist. If the audiologist doesn't sell it's your fault. If the customer has fine hearing it's your fault. The only way to succeed is if you have the best salesperson/audiologist. You never feel like you have job security. Even the stores who do exceptionally well look like nervous wrecks. AVOID at all costs. It's not worth it.

My recommendation......don’t do it. You are made to stand at the door all day and harass customers into coming in to do a free check. Very sales focused hiding behind the guise of a health industry. CEO hires his mates and it’s a real boys club. Store managers are treated like garbage and audiologists are treated like kings. If you don’t get the numbers you get “formal warnings”
They word everything to avoid being looked at by ACCC but they will slip up one day and xxxx will hit the fan.

Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s anything other than a money grabbing company praying on the vulnerable.

Was asked to run shop and lock up after being there for only 3weeks as a casual
Omg

So I told the supervisor my concerns and he still encouraged me to do it. Probably he was after a long weekend off. Be prepared to be constantly on your feet and pressured all shift.

Don't work for Bay Audio if you want to progress. You will be told you can advance but you will never get past store manager. On your feet all day with a 30 min unpaid break. Told on a daily basis you aren't doing well enough which is demotivating. High staff turnover. Very sales focused. Lots of pressure.

It could creep up to four and half stars with the job security/advancement options being better. Very busy place to work never nothing to do whether that's screening customers for hearing loss or paperwork. I learned to lead a team. The hardest part of the job is liaising with the regional Manager who has no idea what a day in my job was like. Most enjoyable part of my job supporting customers. I do miss it.

If you respect yourself or have any integrity you won't last. If you want to be a sell out and slave, go for it. Prepare to be overworked and underappreciated.
No career progression - you will be seen as a threat not as asset. Upper management hires their friends. Don't care about their customers, only making money. A revenue hungry retail business masquerading as health care. Employees are told to give 5 star reviews. If I could give a negative star rating I would.

The best job out there for motivated audiologists who are customer focused in getting the best outcomes for customers. The energy is face-paced and dynamic in our stores, and requires that we are well-rounded.

Management is very supportive and we are encouraged to ensure our customer outcomes can be best achieved with any hearing device they have chosen - high or low end. It is always about doing the right thing. I would not consider working anywhere else as I have only been treated well over the years. I have worked for other providers who pretend to be ethical. I appreciate the leadership team at Bay Audio for being upfront and always striving to do the right thing by our customers.


No downsides for me. Of course all businesses have KPIs and challenges. But those who do not self-motivate or share our passion don't last.. I feel that past employees that are disgruntled are most often unmotivated and have not held themselves accountable for their work performance.

Bay Audio is a really good step into medical admin an hearing career. Good hours only if your a manager an assistant manager or a MSO. Casual staff don't get many hours as we like.

If you enjoy standing long periods of time and being bored out of your brain perfect job for you. annoying shoppers as they walk past asking if they want a hearing check thats about all you do.. managers and workers are rude and lazy and monthly pay is horrible.

The people that I used to work with were pretty great, always provided some quality laughs, however staff turn over was pretty crazy and management chopped and changed alot. I was also asked to work 12 hour shifts on multiple occasions. Not terrible, but not great.

Absolutely appalling. Was made to move to a store I didn't want to go to. Unrealistic sales targets. My SOM was amazing, but a large percent of other higher ups aren't trained well enough and their overall knowledge is that of a toddler.

Very, Very, Very sales based and not much leg room if you want a personal life. They protect the clinicians with everything they have.The clinicians can get away with murder, and you're treated 2nd class to them. I was a Store Manager, And the clinician I worked with was the most unprofessional childish person I've ever worked with.


Bay Audio Cover up that they are all about sales so they don't get in trouble by ACCC. They don't care about the customer at all. I remember being told how much debt that the owners are in, like that should be our main concern.


If you want to keep your sanity and dignity. Do not, work for Bay Audio.

Training initially was excellent, officer was very thorough with overview of what to expect. Unfortunately this slackens off after a while and you become another number just a customer spruiker. The skills you are initially employed for are thrown aside and you do not feel valued If you speak your mind as concerns are not taken seriously.
Sad to leave as I really felt I could have contributed so much more!

I get to talk to customers about doing hearing checks and now that I work here I can see that I can help people. In the early part of my role I got to sit in with a clinician and see a customer get fitted with devices and that was amazing to see their eyes light up.

We have a target to have customers do the test and that keeps us challenged to beat our previous day.


Whilst it is in retail centres it is a sales and retail role and ideal if you like working in a busy, fast paced environment where we can create success.

When I was going through the process the team talked about the chance to change lives and I was not sure but this is genuinely true when a customer is fitted with devices.

Seems to be a role that could be perfect for you so if you love talking to customers and can encourage them to take action about their hearing, you will enjoy the challenge and the role.

I was taken on initially as a casual and through some hard, though not unbearable, work I progressed to an Assistant Store Manager position. It's a challenging retail role coupled with the health industry so it's unusual not you boring regular retail outlet and yes there is sales involved.
I loved my time there especially the thrill of seeing the life changing experience a customer goes through (from barely hearing to full volume!). Getting the customers into the store is tough (they are invited in for an initial free hearing check) but this helps to the success of your store.

As with anywhere, work hard and reap rewards. Management is there to help you reach your goals along with a full support team based in Sydney.

I only left as my husband was relocated overseas. Thanks Bay Audio for a wonderful chapter in my life.

Bay Audio is an innovative company that, more than any other, has attempted to break down the barriers towards customers doing something about a hearing issue they may have delayed for many years. You never know what your day may be like as every one is uniquely different and this keeps it interesting! I've learnt to think on my feet and become the best clinician and person I can be in order to achieve good results. When you get to change someone's life then it all makes all the hard work worthwhile!
