SALES ASSISTANT in Cessnock NSW

Good first job
Favorite place of work so far. It was a good introduction into working and also the basic level skills needed to continue a career in retail. Training is efficient and the management I had were easy to get along and grow with. Sales Assistant (Part-time) in Ellenbrook WA

Work life
Working to home life was ok. No opportunity to move higher in the company and they Don’t hire full time employees so can’t build a future in the company. A good first time job or part time job Assistant Manager in Perth WA

Awful all round
Was made to chase after people and risk my safety to stop violent people from stealing. Management couldn't care less about you. When calling in sick they would question and berate you, then ignore you or treat you badly at work. Always asked to stay later, or start earlier. Retail Assistant in Knox City VIC

Good for a first job
Worked here for about 3 years. Good introduction to retail, was busy at first but not so much over the past year or so (understandable). As a casual retail staff, you either get 4 shifts a week, anywhere from 4-8hrs a day, or maybe 1-2 shifts a week. Pretty quiet during Monday-Wednesday, but picks up more during Thursday-Sunday. Long breaks (1hr + 20min or 15min tea break) if you work 6+ hours. Only 15 minutes break for 5 hour shift. Management is decent, mostly fair and flexible with scheduling. However, the company itself makes you do stuff that is either unnecessary, or just dumb. For example, walking around the store and handing out FREE colouring books, instead of just leaving them at the counter for people to pick up. Some customers got angry at us because we were seen as ‘annoying’ when trying to hand out the books. Another negative would be dealing with customers in general (haha) and sometimes the non-membership discounts didn’t go through automatically. Other than that, it’s a bit boring sometimes. You don’t get to do much until you get a promotion and become a manager, or until you’ve worked there for a few years. Would recommend to high school students or ‘fresh’ uni students.Retail Assistant in Townsville QLD

Management highly unprofessional.
Managers were super unprofessional, always targeted specific staff unfairly. Manager would threaten to not pay us if we clocked our lunch breaks. Had a go at me for being sick and wanted to let me go. Would never provide enough notice of shifts, and would not give me the minimum hours of part time (15 hours a week). Definitely a toxic workplace and woild not recommend working here. What would you say about your employer?
