Excellent benefits and culture

+ Salary/benefits are excellent+ Strong focus on inclusive workplace+ Remote/flexible working- Work hours can sometimes be excessive, e.g. crunch before project deadlines- Career advancement more dependent on connections than performance

What is said and what is done are often different

A company full of high paid engineers and clicky senior managers. Their mammoth size allows them to get away with it.Culturally very poor. They are lucky they have good people on the ground doing the actual grunt work while more senior managers have no idea.

Pros

Pay well

Cons

Too much profit which hides too many problems.

Awful

Since initiating a woke business framework they have promoted a number of women into management positions who are exceptionally inexperienced in management and the work itself. To accommodate bullying, lying and manipulation by this "charming group of ladies" accepted by upper management. Don't be fooled by their "code of ethics". They don't abide by it and will threaten you if they have to. You will be surprised by their antics, as those who reside in the upper echelons are frightened to lose their overpaid positions. In some teams - not all - you will encounter what can only be described as a highly toxic environment. Dysfunctional, incompetence, mediocrity etc. It blew my socks off as to how bad it was. Waste and bureaucracy was everywhere. HR as well - so don't bother going there.

Pros

Above market salary

Cons

If you want to see how truly bad a corporate can be go to BHP. The waste, the incompetence, the bullying by people who claim to be oh so woke!

Productive workplace with a strong 'us and them' culture. Contractors vs permanents.

I enjoyed my time at BHP, however, the culture needs a drastic overhaul. More than 80% of workers are contractors, and to me, that is purely disgusting in today's world. There is no security at BHP. None whatsoever. The 'us vs them' mentality is permeated throughout the culture at BHP and needs to be changed if they are going to attract a loyal and dedicated workforce. The world's biggest mining company posted a US$12b profit in the first quarter of 2020, and then proceeded to make over 2000 employees redundant. What kind of message does that say to you?

Pros

Working remotely 'culture'

Cons

Massive amount of contractors. They do not value their staff.

Good company !

A great company to work for, with many career options and a world wide group of long life, low cost assets. Workplace culture is sound and focuses on honouring core values and code of conduct. Most enjoyable part of working for BHP is that there is always someone who is willing to help you, or even provide an alternative idea to yours.

Pros

work life balance options

Cons

approvals can take long because of all the sign off levels.

Hard work but great opportunities for those wanting to progress within the company

Although I enjoyed working with BHP at the time, I am now looking for something with less responsibility/stress. BHP demand a very high quality of workmanship from all employees to enable them to deliver the great results they have achieved and offer great opportunities to advance within the company for those wishing to better themselves. Long hours were often part of the role and flexibility was a must.

everything you could want working away from home, resort style living

Very clear direction in how your day will be planned, safety first. Resort style amenities onsite. Hard days in the heat sometimes but break as often as you like to re-hydrate. Hard to learn their systems administration and software however full support is offered, no room for error.

Pros

chose your own meals and its almost limitless

Cons

long hours but something you get use to

BHPB has a great work culture and through Global Practice Leaders you can always find technical support and guidance. A real treasure for the aspiring discipline engineer.

Large company

Good salary. Good procedures/processes, maybe to much. Many people. Opportunities for promotion if you can use the culture and the structures to your advantage and manage your supervisor correctly.

Relatively productive place to work

A workplace where constant pressure to perform but interesting, however management always changing procedures/processes with a frequent focus on non-value adding tasks. Co-workers are very good and solid team spirit where we help each other.

Pros

Good salary

Productive team environment

Change fatigue, years of head count culling, a sense of a lack of direction. No training or real proper career development.

Pros

One free can of coke a day

Cons

Lack of direction, integrity, honesty and development.
