Good workplace
Fill Team Member (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 20 September 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedJob is easy to learn and get used to. Fellow fill team members are nice and are easy to talk to/get along with. Very flexible with aligning shifts with your own personal commitments.

Flexible hours
Store Associate (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 18 September 2023
Retail has changed over the years. If you want a full time job you have to apply for a management position. Other positions are good for students or mums who only need part time work.

Toxic Management
Team Member (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 2 September 2023
Management had favourites and little support working there. Some colleagues were friendly but others were terrible.

50/50 kind of place
Retail Assistant (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 17 May 2023
Some days good, some days not. Managers have favourites with lazy workers & overwork their hardest working staff. Poor rostering so shop is understaffed & blame on no funds for more staff. Managers will speak to you like a child for being late to work due to traffic but will keep a well-known bully & liar work for 5 years. Managers will dump the tasks of several people, expect you to finish all tasks by the end of your shift with little to not team help, & then blame you for there being a mess or things being behind schedule. I’m probably overworked & in need of a massive holiday away from the place!

Good people, Average Managment
Various Positions (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 16 May 2023
Not a terrible place to work. Made alot of good friends there and sometimes the work can be really fun, some managers are great and really care while others are incompetent.

Underpaid and overworked.
Storeman (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 13 April 2023
Big W is fine for a first job. Beyond that is a draining existance. If you're a "good worker" you will find yourself carrying the team, doing the work of many while others have a good old chat or watch videos on their phones. The pay is sub par. Just enough to live but you'll end up in a work to live cycle with little free time. If you're lucky enough to gain a specialized role your pay will not change. You will gain more work and responsibility with no incentives or gains.
Pros
You can pay bills.
Cons
The company.

Good
Team Member (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 4 April 2023
Good company to work for your first job, but no stable hours, can get short shifts a lot. Good people to work with. Typical customer service job, different departments you can work.

Chilled place to work
Team Member (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 24 February 2023
Its a fairly easy job, the pay is standard. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The only cons are the rude customers and job stability. Some weeks I'll get ten hours and other weeks up to thirty.
Pros
staff
Cons

Great job
Retail Assistant (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 27 January 2022
Can be very stressful expected to do a 4 person job, they expect you to be able to give up having a life and working there 5/6 days week for 3/4hr a days, plus side was the team i worked with where fantastic, Had great leaders and Manager. THE biggest down fall for me at BigW was i could only get 16hr a week unfortunately I can't live off that.
Pros
Great team Great Manager Great leaders
Cons
Not enough hours Minimum wage Working a 4 person job Won't more hrs you need work more days, thats hard when your there already on day 6 a week

Casual Retail Assistant (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 9 December 2021
Getting a 3hrs shift for one day work wasn’t enough and wasn’t enough money either to travel, pay bills and buy food.I would maybe like to work again for big w on the cash registers as i did have 16yrs with them.

I wouldn't recommend it
Retail Associate (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 3 January 2021
I've been with the company for 2 and a half years now. Unfortunately almost a year ago, my previous store shut down and since then my job has completely changed. It went from a fun, drama free, healthy working environment to an unreliable, unhealthy, toxic workplace where you are unfortunately treated differently if you don't suck up to the managers. There is no communication, you will be pushed when you're already down. There is no getting ahead.
Pros
Staff discount
Cons
Unreliable hours, management, toxic work environment

Very standard job for someone who just wants to work
Manager (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 15 March 2019
Can just clock in clock out, very standard not much in the way of career progression which is something that a person needs. They no longer care about staff only care about $$$

a sinking ship
Recovery Associate (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 25 February 2018
They refuse to give contracts or enough hours to live off of. I learned some skills in customer service but getting more training is like pulling teeth as they never give me the time. The general atmosphere and employee moral is low. Had some of the worst managers.

Supportive workplace with friendly and caring staff/management
Recovery Presentation Associate, Customer Service (Current Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 12 February 2018
I have learned many new skills and abilities at this workplace while working alongside very friendly and supportive staff. Managers are always present and available if help is needed. My experience at Big W Brookside has been very positive and it makes for an excellent first-time job or career.
Cons
Shortage of staff

Treated like a number
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 6 November 2017
If you ever want to be treated like a person; do not work for this company.
If you specialise in an area that need a specific skill or qualification; don’t work here.
If you want management to blame you for things you never did; don’t work here.
If you’re after okay money with no chance of career progression; work here.
Got a problem? THEY. DON’T. CARE.
Pros
Money
Cons
Management, support, store maintenance.
