Stressful environment , a lot of bullying in the workplace

Didn’t work for big w for long was literally hired for the toy sale . Didn’t have friendly work employees was constant chitty chatter about other employers . Managers promote no bullying in the workplace when they were the ones doing it . Was thrown in the deep end with my job barely any training provided other employees would constant winge if they had to help . Pay was great though so that was the only plus about the job .

Pros

Everyday rewards plus card benefits . Good pay .

Cons

Constant rotating shift .

Was good but that was because of the work family we had not the upper management

i miss working there but its has nothing to do with the company itself but the store i worked in and the people around me. i worked good hours but they would change too much ie from 6-10 to 5-9 3:30- 7:30 at the time we were all highschool students and we struggled to get in on time for work

Unfortunately being a mature aged worker I was only ever going to be a Xmas fill in and get given the minimum amount of hours. Very lazy, unhygienic juniors, friends of the manger seem to be very well looked after. The companies internal processes are a mess and find it impossible to have things like superannuation payments be adjusted and payed into your super account.. Major lack of communication and often just felt not wanted there at all. I honestly was hoping for a different experience as I had wanted to work there for quite some time.

A good place to get bullyed

Big w started out as a great company, they understanded my needs and listened to what I needed help with. But it changed really quickly when I tried looking after my own mental health, I was ignored by the store manager when I brought up concerns with one of the managements. I was told by my manager to do what I needed to do and they would support me and then as soon as I left, I was getting messages from co-workers saying they were talking badly about me when I left. They only look after you to a certain extent, the shop comes first and everything has to be up to christians standards, even if it is impossible. You can work your hardest and still get growled out because of something extremely minor. Save your energy and work somewhere that knows that you're a human.

Not very enjoyable

The store overall is really great, however, night fill is not. The actual job itself is good, fast paced and active (would probably recommend other stores but not the one I worked at) however, extremely poor management that don't take complaints or concerns seriously, very low team morale with bullying and bickering behind backs, and a lack of decent work ethic.All round was not a good experience whatsoever.

Nightfill at bigw Mackay have a fantastic energy and comradery feel about them, most of the staff welcome you upon arrival Most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help customers and having them leave with a smile hardest part is having to work long hours during holidays, especially on X-mas eve leaving at 8-10pm, you don't get much time with your family
