The most useful review selected by IndeedIt was okay, I enjoyed it more than other jobs but they ended up hiring too many people so they cut me off. it gets boring working there for so long.

The most incredible people managed by idiots
Team Member (Current Employee) - Thomastown VIC - 6 January 2023
You will meet some of the nicest people you have ever come across when working at the Thomastown store. However, this is completely overshadowed by the poor management the store can’t seem to get right. You will work understaffed, undervalued and of course under appreciated. The ‘benefits’ they describe are coffee cards to cover you working at the rate of 3 people in rain, hail and shine. You may stay because of the people, as mentioned above they are incredible. If you can see beyond the poor management and not let it get to you then you may enjoy it. But ask if I would recommend it, I would say absolutely not. Because once those amazing people move on, you will soon realise it’s harder and harder to turn up every day.
Pros
Coffee cards
Cons

Loved working at Bunnings
Team Member (Former Employee) - Arundel, Gold Coast. Australia - 7 December 2022
It was most probably the best, easy-going team I have worked with. I would go back in a heartbeat if I wasn't living overseas. Miss working there even after being away for 3 years.
Pros
Team Member discounts
Cons

Productive and fun workplace
Casual Team Member (Former Employee) - Chatswood NSW - 21 November 2022
Fellow staff are friendly and nice, with a focus on team building and team culture. Management makes you feel heard. At times the job can be stressful during peak hours with little staff on the floor.

People are good but it's pretty understaffed
Team Member (Former Employee) - Sydney NSW - 21 November 2022
At most Bunnings stores there's an expectation to be friendly to each other and so new team member are usually welcomed pretty easily and not intimidated by long term staff. The pay for casuals is very good, especially if you're student, and unless you're a bad worker you're pretty much guaranteed hours so don't go on a contract unless you absolutely need it. The in store managers are okay. A big focus is put on mental health and they're usually pretty understanding and supportive when it comes to that. The problem is with the higher ups in the big offices. Literally every Bunnings store is understaffed because each store is not given enough of a budget to put adequate staff on each shift, despite us working through two Covid outbreaks and making record profits for them. Workers are tired, run down, and just as upset that customers can't find anyone to help as much as customers are. Closing shifts were a rushed nightmare and mess would pile up around you as you had to attend to customers first and couldn't complete other duties. Managers usually have to cover the lack of floor staff and become frustrated and stressed when they can't complete their own tasks. The only upside is that everyone struggles together. Lunch rooms are either a therapy session or a place to nap. If you can handle heat, constant loud noises and constantly jumping between customers and your own tasks while understaffed, then you can handle Bunnings.
Pros
Good pay, friendly coworkers
Cons
Understaffed, stressful, extreme temperatures

May work for some, but not others
Team Member (Current Employee) - Gungahlin ACT - 6 November 2022
Life at Bunnings is very varied, you can have a quiet day with sufficient colleagues in your section (hate calling them team members) or be alone and receive 10 pallets of stock. Rostering can also be inconsistent and create situations where you must manage multiple departments. Training consists of online modules on workday, training days with brands and any info passed down from co-workers. Management can be understanding and competent or separated from those on the floor. Their lack of experience creating unrealistic expectations and exerting downwards pressure. A feeling of "us vs them" persists with relatability lacking and the likely true observation that your manager is not there for your benefit. That said if you're lucky you can tailor your roster to suit your activities but shifts occasionally change without warning so be aware of that. The culture doesn't reward hard work as that is rewarded with a coffee card or a certificate and socks most of the time. colleagues are generally friendly and happy though. The hardest part of the job is the physical work that may be required as well as dealing with different instructions from different people as a result of poor communication. Colleague interactions and payday are the highlight of the job. You can develop close bonds with people that extend out of the store. Speaking of pay, I believe it is reasonable and performance reviews results can result in a rise. You can also receive in-store credit called E-Balance. All in all, if you are happy with physical work and have good management it can be enjoyable -
Pros
Flexibility, job security (most of the time)
Cons
Management us vs them attitude, Downwards pressure, management visits

Bullying, Cover ups, Policy Breaches and Unethical Management.
Team Member (Former Employee) - Invermay TAS - 24 October 2022
I found a tremendous sense of fulfilment being able to help customers every day. I made some great friendships with fellow team members who worked alongside me in the trenches. It was a great place to work. The "leadership" (self-proclaimed title of managers) were only concerned with their own perceived performance. Constant roster and budget issues, always fudging the numbers. Bullying, victimisation, manipulation, gaslighting...you name it. Always someone else's problem or turning a blind eye. Trust and integrity goes both ways. They preach a safe workplace, a caring environment and strong ethical leadership. From what ive seen, it couldn't be further from the truth. They want to be accredited with all the positive corporate buzz words and moral virtue in the absence of the work necessary to actually attain it.
Pros
Discounts, Share Scheme
Cons
Toxic culture, virtue signalling and closed-minded management.

Amazing staff, TERRIBLE managment.
Team Member (Current Employee) - Thomastown VIC - 18 October 2022
The staff at this store are amazing, but the new ops and complex managers are absolutely TERRIBLE. Disrespectful, derogatory, demanding, dismissive, micro-managers. Every bad value you could imagine a manager having are possessed by the higher up management of this store. The incompetence is insane. I’ve witnessed team members forced to work when they were sick. I’ve witnessed team members break down from the stress. I’ve witnessed team members being manipulated. I’ve witnessed team members being pushed and pushed and pushed to the point of physical exhaustion because these clowns refuse to hire more team members after others leave because of their behaviour. If you want to peruse a career at Bunnings, PLEASE, for your own sake, try and find an opening at another store.
Pros
Nice Team Members, Flexible Hours
Cons
Terrible managment, Average Pay, Stressful

fun workplace with good people
Team Member (Former Employee) - Keysborough VIC - 14 June 2022
I enjoyed working as a casual with Bunnings, at my store, the environment was good and I made lots of friends. An emphasis on building good relationships with coworkers through events outside of work. Hourly rate is also very high as a casual, they do however cut hours during the winter (when business is quiet) if you are casual.

While the job promotes a family/comforting enviorment do not be mistaken. This job is very much corporate orrientated.
Team Member (Current Employee) - CSS - 13 May 2022
Often looked down opon for certain positions and pushed to complete jobs that require certain safety procedures to be broken. When following safety procedure management is shocked that assistance is required, leaving many areas of the store empty.

I feel secure and happy at my work. The company have always had my back. I recommend them highly. They encourage the young ones to grow. If they see you are interested in becoming more involved in what you do theres always plenty of traini ng to further your education.

Stressful and intimidating.
Team Member (Former Employee) - Smithfield NSW - 4 March 2022
It was really good in the beginning, management were really focused on ensuring team members needs were being fulfilled and were okay/satisfied , but now it’s very different. Team members aren’t motivated anymore and it’s more of a stressful environment and with it’s management and a lot of people are leaving. One manager watches staff using the stores cameras and another somewhat micro manages people by standing with staff watching them. It’s very intimidating and uncomfortable and it makes it stressful working here. There’s also a lot of unrealistic expectations making harder for team members to achieve in time but at the same time a lot of neglect in areas because some people have given up and have lost the motivation . A lot people are unhappy here in their departments and are considering of leaving. Although very lovely team members. It’s not uncommon to not be greeted multiple times as you walk your way into the store. Team members are very kind and supportive of one and another, it’s management I feel needs to be improved on.

Disgusting work culture
Team Member (Former Employee) - Kingsgrove NSW - 2 March 2022
Management is corrupt and they have alot of favouritism. Tough working here if you don't absolutely suck up to management. They don’t care about you as person and only care about how much money you are making them.

Generally alright workplace with no job security.
Team Member (Former Employee) - Shepparton VIC - 15 February 2022
The company is good to work for, but there is a massive disconnect between managers and employees. It is impossible to get full time, they prefer to keep you casual or part time and move your shifts around constantly, including crazy times. They also can move you from different sections on a contract. They also have bank of hours which is a way to not pay you overtime and then not give you shifts to suit them. Which means no over time pay.
Pros
Can make friends and meet lots of people
Cons
Bank of hours. Service desk is stressful.
