This workplace had excellent staff of long standing who knew the area and the job. Initially I needed to spend 7 day a week at the job to bring the administration up to date and I learned to cope with learning a new environment as well as keeping elected officials happy. All co-workers were happy that a permanent CEO had been engaged and assisted me to bring things up to date. All line managers co-operated with me but the elected Mayor made my job difficult by providing constant interference in my decision making. The job gave me satisfaction in my being able to improve the culture and by empowering various levels of the organisation to achieve outcomes which they were previously not permitted to do.
