Horrible place to work.
Anyone can become a manager, and the power usually goes to their head. They have rules and standards but when staff implement the rules and the customer complains it’s always the staff at fault. My age definitely played a part in me being treated differently. Young crew and I just didn’t fit in.
Night Shift customer service in Newcastle NSW

Night shift: not as bad as you may think
Night shift was pretty chill. First off, you get locked in the store until 6am so you don't have to worry about getting robbed or anything. In my 6 months working there I did not get threatened a single time. You do see some pretty funky individuals, though. The manager was super awesome and fun to talk to. He would always ask about my wellbeing and treat me very well. You are in charge of the entire store while the manager is gone. You have to do cleaning, baking pies, filling shelves, authorising fuel pumps, among other things. Overall, it was pretty satisfying to get to the end of your shift knowing that the customers are being welcomed into a fully stocked and freshly cleaned store. If I was working regular day shifts I would probably still be there. However, the nature of night shifts eventually destroyed my social life and I felt zombified (but that's just a personal thing).Caltex was a surprisingly good place to work.

Good to work for if you are in the good books with the site manager.
Depending on the mood of the manager determined whether you got good hours or not.If you were not in the good books with the manager forget about decent hours.

Very friendly and safety atmosphere
I found working for caltex a great place to work. But do feel wages were low. I found the manager great and work colleges good to work with I felt safe even though I worked in one of townsville rougher suburbs. I did shift work so had all sorts around.
