Best place I've ever worked

Featured review

Cluey Learning Pty Ltd selected this as a representative review
This is an extremely supportive environment from all levels of the business. Everyone is friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and can't do enough to help each other! As a fairly new company (official launch to the public in May 2018, but 2 years of product development and research prior to this), we are continually consulted about changes to processes and products to make sure that we feel we are giving our staff and customers the best. We have anonymous surveys frequently to ensure people feel able to give their honest feedback and opinions about how things are going - these results are collected and always taken into account by the Leadership Team to make changes where needed. We also have a new professional development program to ensure that we feel our skills are being developed and we are given opportunities to be a part of various projects across the business.

You only need to focus on your teaching

The Cluey team will take care of all administration tasks, and lesson plan/test/HW preparation. You only need to review the lesson before the session and focus on your teaching. However, quite a lack of communication and management.

Not right

The flexibility wasn't too bad, but the Pay was LOL. Don't go here. It's not a company that I personally would approve and or would recommend to someone.

Flexible, fun and purposeful

The best part of working as a tutor at Cluey was ending a session knowing I helped a student gain confidence in an area they hadn’t felt comfortable with before. It’s truly rewarding.

Fun

Organised and efficient workplace. I had a great experience with the scheduling of classes and sessions. The content provided was useful and well managed.

A company that is very supportive and keeps you well informed.

I find working alongside of the students very enjoyable. The hours are flexible and the support from the company is great. The hardest part is not being in person. It can be quite challenging to give instructions and information because of this.

Pros

Experiences with the students. Flexible working hours.

Cons

Can’t start until 4 PM weekdays

Nice starting job

As casual, you are a paid a set price so unless they assign you a lot of shifts, hard to earn decent but nice job to have on the side I would recommend for those starting out

Conditions

The company is great to work for if you are looking for a first job. However, they randomly assign students at inconvenient times such as on the night before.

Fun work experience - hard to start however

As someone new to tutoring, Cluey was a welcome experience however it is hard to pick up students unless you have already showed experience or expertise. Guidelines on session practise are harsh but do give a solid foundation

Great company to work for!

Work from home. Online tutoring. Very organised. Good company to work for. Lessons planned for you. Choose your own times available. Regular work. Choose the subject you prefer to teach.

Pros

Work from home choose your hours

Cons

None

Convenient and flexible, but sometimes lacks in communication

It was great that I could work around my uni schedule, tutor from the comfort of my bedroom and not have to make any materials since they were all readily available. However, contacting the Support team can be quite iffy, especially if you're outside call hours during a session. It also felt a little depersonalised with the system in that you aren't able to have some contact with the student or parents outside the sessions to further organise, and this makes it rather hard (particularly in the new system) to deliver reasons for things such as sudden cancellations.

Easy job, low pay.

It is an easy going job which you do from home. Training is good. My only quarrel is the pay but other than that it is a good job. I also heard there is no chance for pay increases so that sucks

Productive and fun workplace

Management is quite supportive and have answered my queries quickly although I would prefer if phone calls were a main source of communication rather than emails.

Great as a first tutoring job

Great to build some experience in the tutoring industry, the students are mostly attentive and well-behaved. The online nature of the tutoring system allows for flexible hours and the pre-prepared learning program is quite useful, but not as comprehensive as I think it should be.

Pros

Online platform is easy to use and allows for flexible teaching, able to fit around other tasks

Cons

Students may cancel sessions at short notice, decent but not great pay rate

Ripping off poor university students is their business model

Although they technically pay you below the employment equivalent minimum wage, don't offer a higher rate for weekend work there is nothing that FairWork can do about it since it is a contract position. It is boarderline sham contracting. They pay the tutors less than 30% of what the parents pay which results in an unfair deal for both the parents and the tutors. They also recently changed the conditions on "availability" to make it less flexible for tutors, without offering a rates increase amisdt the cost of living crisis. The executives at the compary continue to make a fortune at the expense of broke university students. If you are a parent, hire a local tutor at a fraction of the cost and if you are student thinking about working with Cluey, don't.

Pros

Connecting with students, work from home

Cons

Pay, management

Flexible but grossly underpayed

- Inconsistent hours with minimal support - especially if there is a tech issue in session- Good being able to work online from wherever, but it's practically impossible to get help during a session if there are IT issues- Pay is $25 and does not reflect the level of effort required to do the job well - clients are paying around 3x this per session - Also have to be contracted- Clients can cancel last minute and Cluey doesn't seem to have any regulations about how long a client can stay on the books without paying - e.g. a client had payment issues (meaning sessions were canceled with zero compensation for me) for 8 weeks in a row, despite numerous requests for them to be allocated to a different tutor

You can only earn a meager amount.

Working at Cluey Learning is good only when we have a proper job and the income at Cluey is like a side gig. I do not recommend for someone who want to make a living just by working at this tutoring company.

Flexible working hours

Working with the children I meet via Cluey is incredibly gratifying and inspiring for me.The work is inconsistent, though, and management doesn't make you feel appreciated. You can work 20 hours one week and 0 the next since you are a contractor. You are presumably given kids at random to work with, and you must deal with obnoxious parents who can afford to pay for tutoring yet want their children to receive a scholarship. While working with children is wonderful, dealing with their parents and the company's lack of assistance makes you wonder whether you should continue working there for slightly above minimum wage.

Poor pay but flexible hours are convenient for uni students

Pros: - Work from home- Flexible hours and able to take leave whenever- Rewarding working with studentsCons:- Pay for tutors is way too low- Always end up working unpaid overtime to research texts

Flexible work from home

Good first job for studying teachersI recommend that you study up on the content beforehand. The program can be hard to follow at times so it’s important to have confidence in your ability
