I applied online for a new store so I guess that's why it took a little while to hear back from them about an interview. There were about 70-80 people all up and as we went into the room they numbered us off and gave us a table to sit at. There were about 8 people on each table and then a supervisor allocated to each table. At the start they gave us some time to talk and introduce ourselves so make sure you start conversation! Things like whether anyone's studying or if it's their first job so on. Also smile a lot and seem really interested in the things people are saying and if there's water on the table make sure to offer it to others and pour their glasses.
To begin with the supervisor went around the table and asked us to introduce ourselves and answer things like why we want to work at coles, what department, something interesting about ourselves but it was really chill so don't worry about it being super formal or well rehearsed, just look happy and enthusiastic.
They gave us a piece of paper to write down what we thought good customer service is. Pretty basic.
Then we did some activities, things like talking about a food item for 30 seconds (volunteer first and stand up) and then a group activity about what you would do in a zombie scenario. With the zombie scenario make sure you listen to other people and don't talk over other people or get too serious about it just look interested.
Lastly they give you a form where you write down your availability and position preferences. Try to put down as much availability as possible even if that means until midnight because they look at that favourably. Also when numbering what order of preference you would like in terms of positions put a number next to everything even though they say at least 3. Also DO NOT forget to thank your supervisor and use their name and tell them that you appreciate their time.
They said it would take 2 weeks to get back to us but it took them a week and 2 days and then I got an email, probably because it was a new store and they were hiring a lot of people.
Seriously. you're not going for an interview at Citibank - so no stress required. If you don't know how to conduct yourself at an interview at Coles then you probably wont be getting a job anywhere in a hurry.
What are the working hours and how many per week and how can I apply for an interview.
The more availability you have the better your chances of getting hours- you can work up to 38 hours a week but try getting them!! depends on time of year, your status. casual, student, part of full timer. If you're a casual with good availability if you get 15 hours a week count yourself really lucky
- why you want to work at coles
- modes of transport
- experience in retail/ customer service
Then the rest is dependant on the hiring manager and the job your applying for.
So I've got invited for an interview at coles and it said i had to bring a few things, i have got my birth certificate and stuff but not my Photo I.D that is getting replaced and i have to wait like 2 weeks and i was just wondering if that is going to be a problem? Like would i be able to explain it the interviewer why i haven't got it or just don't worry about it.
You would have to explain why you don't have your photo id.
