Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  Melbourne Eastern Suburbs VIC19 March 2019
Coles is a big company, they have many employees, when working there, the management team was great and they help you with many things. Such as: Customer service, facing, stocking, organizing, being proactive (cleaning things when needed).

It can be tiring, but its a overall great experience and fun work place to be in. It has great benefits such as discount of purchase of groceries.

Not great
Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Maryborough QLD8 March 2019
I’ve always felt that Coles as a whole does not seem to care “passionately” about their team members like they say. It is extremely hard to be offered a contract if you have been employed as a casual, and For a company that has money, they act very cheap. Our store is falling apart and seemingly nothing is being done.

No job advancement

Nice place to work, once used to working.
Customer Service Representative (Part Time) (Current Employee) –  Melbourne VIC4 February 2019
Good place to work at. Would have been better if the head office did themselves, as much as they require the team members to do. Work force is chill, majority of the work done there is easy and straigh tforward .
Pros
Team member benefits, like discounted movie tickets.

Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Blacktown NSW21 January 2019
Being able to work in an environment where there are numerous departments ensures you're not doing the same thing day in, day out. Management can be a little tough.

management unfair
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Banksia Grove WA27 November 2018
managment at the coles i worked at was unfair and only benefited the employees that knew eachother or were related. I have worked their for nearly 6 years and have been there since the banksia grove store opened. 3 years ago a new customer service mangager started working and ever since then if you are not family friends or family with either her or the second in command you will not get any shifts and will be treated lower than the rest.

Retail at Coles
Service Team Member (Casual) (Former Employee) –  Melbourne VIC19 November 2018
Coles is great for individuals just starting out or those who have basic experience in retail. Being at Coles for 4 years though seems to be very repetitive and hard work doesn't always pay off by moving up in the business.

Great environment, Low pay, minimal job advancement opportunity
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Melbourne Eastern Suburbs VIC11 November 2018
A typical day can be more stressful and demanding than should be expected of base level part time workers.
The company has opportunity for employees to step up and learn about managerial functions, however rewards for the application of such learning; that is, pay increases or promotions, are non-existent and therefore creates a disincentive to progress one's career within his/her department and store.
Management has always been satisfactory and warm, with employees being easily able to work alongside both department managers and store managers in a friendly environment. However, as previously stated, managers have no power to reward commitment to the store.
The workplace culture is great and comfortable. It is extremely easy to create and build relationships with coworkers and managers.
The hardest part of the job is the minimal earnings. The work itself is not too difficult, however being on minimal wage and the only prospects for pay increases being conversion to full time management work, which is impossible for many workers.
The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to work in such a friendly environment that encourages growth and learning.
Pros
Friendly and Fun environment
Cons
Low Pay
