Good working environment
Night Duty Manager (Former Employee) –  Noble Park VIC2 April 2019
Good working environment, plenty of room for flexibility for working hours and have good benefits. Can get physically frustrating at times but apart from that, good place to work.

Customer Service Operator (Former Employee) –  Greenacres SA31 March 2019
If you are a teenager looking to get a job for after school pocket money, but then feel pressured to stay with the promise of moving up into a supervisor/management role, then look no further.
Pros
Varied work hours
Cons
Doesn't deliver on promises

Damaged corporate Culture
Department Relief Manager (Current Employee) –  Melbourne VIC29 March 2019
The corporate culture is bad. The profit of the business is more important than paying employees for work they have done. In the small store I have worked in, there have been 3-5 employees a week getting underpaid.

Just your average first job
Checkout Operator (Former Employee) –  Ellenbrook WA27 March 2019
Didn't really have a bad experience here. Was my first job so wasn't expecting too much out of it. Co-workers were all great, most of the management were cool and the pay, for a 14 year old wasn't bad.

Discount

Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  Melbourne Eastern Suburbs VIC19 March 2019
Coles is a big company, they have many employees, when working there, the management team was great and they help you with many things. Such as: Customer service, facing, stocking, organizing, being proactive (cleaning things when needed).

It can be tiring, but its a overall great experience and fun work place to be in. It has great benefits such as discount of purchase of groceries.

Truly a "stepping stone"
Service Supervisor / Night Fill / Part-Time (Former Employee) –  Western Australia18 March 2019
Work Life / Balance is not an option. You work when you're asked to work otherwise nothing. "What can you do for Coles?" is all they're interested in.

Salary is okay. It increases over time now. There are better options out there in the retail sector.

Advancement in your career is minimal and all done in house now with programs. Total years of experience don't matter at all unless the particular store is in desperation.

Line managers are okay and understanding. Unfortunately, their hands are tied in middle & upper management that are non-existent to the average employee.

Job Culture is good. Very broad!

Overall a good stepping stone for greener pastures for the average person.
Pros
Job Culture is solid. Okay pay. Solid stepping stone to greener pastures.
Cons
Work/life balance.

Not great
Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Maryborough QLD8 March 2019
I’ve always felt that Coles as a whole does not seem to care “passionately” about their team members like they say. It is extremely hard to be offered a contract if you have been employed as a casual, and For a company that has money, they act very cheap. Our store is falling apart and seemingly nothing is being done.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
No job advancement

Customer Service Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Melbourne VIC26 February 2019
Coles was a good place to work while studying. Depending on your manager you can have plenty of time to study and socialise. But certain practises of Coles was not good.

The atmosphere depends on the manager of the store but you can make a good atmosphere by good cooperation with the manager of each department. The best thing is the continuous income.

Nice place to work, once used to working.
Customer Service Representative (Part Time) (Current Employee) –  Melbourne VIC4 February 2019
Good place to work at. Would have been better if the head office did themselves, as much as they require the team members to do. Work force is chill, majority of the work done there is easy and straigh tforward .
Pros
Team member benefits, like discounted movie tickets.

Fact paced workplace with over expecting management
Nightfiller (Current Employee) –  Toowoomba QLD2 February 2019
Working as nightfill for two years in Toowoomba for coles. The management was bad but colleagues were the best. Management Lacks communication to staff members especially nightfill. No appreciation for hard work. Managers Can be rude and very demanding, doesn’t matter if it’s the best you are giving. Almost always understaffed but nonetheless they imply as if there is always enough staff to do the job. But it’s all corporate manipulation to get more done in less time and with less staff to save more money so the managers can get the credit for saving money. Casuals aren’t given enough hours ever unless you go to manager every week and almost beg for more hours to pay the bills. Not a fair workplace as they make it look like. Really stressful. Only suited to those who can work really fast and put up with managers acting like CEOs.
Pros
Employment
Cons
Lack of communication and enough hours. No appreciation or feedback.

Checkout Operator (Former Employee) –  Kippa-Ring QLD29 January 2019
Coles accommodates its staff well and gives them long enough breaks. Good part time job for nights or weekends if you are studying. Can be hard with difficult customers, if worked in retail before than that wont be new to you.

Night Filler (Current Employee) –  Capalaba QLD22 January 2019
Coes as a brand name are ok to work for but in regards to night fill, it is very strenuous work. Hours have been reduced to minimise cost but work load has not reduced.

Typical behaviours I have learnt are there are many people who have took time in finding jobs like this, all the acceptable manner going towards customers are well organised and all. The team work that is happening I'd say is actually great having to see many smiles on peoples faces.
