Completely toxic environment
Wrapper/Packer (Current Employee) - Adelaide SA - 25 January 2023
The people that work their backsides off are treated like garbage. Those that brown nose are given full time and/or supervisor or even dept management roles, or higher... assistant warehouse management roles. They'll give part timers really good hours, and just with a snap of the fingers from some big wig who wants a fatter bonus, they'll dump you back to 24hrs wk right as the cost of living is going up. So if you're a single person, you'll be on the bones of your backside.
Pros
You get to leave and go home
Cons
Brown nosers get the perks, completely toxic. Workplace bullying, gaslighting and nepotism is rife.

Good pay but management needs work
Deli Worker (Current Employee) - Melbourne South Eastern Suburbs VIC - 20 September 2022
Having worked at costco for a year, the pay was great for the work given. However the management need more work with interacting with their employees. There is a lot of drama and a lot of the time, the departments are understaffed. Meaning more work for you and less social time, but overall the pay was good.

Actually a good experience
Merchandiser (Former Employee) - Marsden Park NSW - 15 June 2022
Costco is probably the best place I have worked at. I was only seasonal so I was there for 3 months. You have to work extremely hard though. Managers and supervisors are always there to assist

Toxic Workplace, Staff treated like garbage
Clerk (Former Employee) - Moorabbin VIC - 27 May 2022
Management don’t listen to feedback or concerns from their staff. They only care about the bottom line and are mostly sycophants trying to get a promotion. Chronically understaffed and only care about minimising payroll and not the mental well-being or safety of their people. Breaks are often forgot about and you’re expected to accept roster changes at the last minute with no warning.

Seasonals treated like nobodies
Meat Packer (Former Employee) - Marsden Park NSW - 29 April 2022
Wasn't worth my time not well trained and they had high expectations. Was not given a real reason why they terminated my 3 month contract after just 2 weeks.

Under Appreciated & Over Worked
Customer Service (Former Employee) - Ipswich QLD - 12 November 2021
Costco take the "Above & Beyond" motto to the next level. You will work beyond your role because its expected & not be appreciated for it or be given the opportunity to move up within the company. (The only way you move up is if you have relations with a manager) Managers will do anything for a member even if it breaks their own policies & procedures for example; letting refunds through that are outside of the returns/warranty period, allowing members to shop after harassing/assaulting staff, giving the membership fee back to members who are caught stealing. If your a hard worker they will give you more tasks & not provide training at all. Its a sink or swim type of "training" method they have. If you want a work life balance don't work here. They don't support people with children & people who study for example; not allowing staff to have 1 weekend off every few months to spend time with their family, not allowing staff to have exam periods off or negotiate rostering schedules, not allowing any type of negotiation to your rostering schedule to attend personal life activities (attending funerals & or mourning a death is frowned upon). If you love getting f**ked around & used to your full capacity this is the job for you.
Pros
The paycheck, some staff are nice to your face
Cons
Everything else

Stable, fast paced but management can be messy
Worker (Former Employee) - Perth WA - 5 November 2021
I worked here from before opening day up until the end of 2020. To start i can say is the amount of online tests, drug screenings, background checks and interviews to get the job is a lot. As for the job itself, it is extremely fast paced and you need to be switched on at all times, the culture between employees was pretty good but as for career growth, depending on the department it was completely determined by whoever the manager liked the most and at times i saw lower qualified people getting higher positions by 'kissing up'. The job itself is stable as it's a lengthy process to get fired but i'll add that Costco does pay well for a customer service centered job; we got covid bonuses, a free membership as well as other perks, but there is no work-life balance and they expect you to be very committed to your work, hence i left to study.
Pros
Free membership, good pay, stable.
Cons
Management

Hate it with a passion
Worker (Former Employee) - Epping VIC - 5 August 2021
Upper management hates you unless you're willing to go on your knees. Supervisors act as if they've gotten a uni degree to get where they are when in reality they sold their dignity for a promotion. Would learn how to maintain warehouse for customers. Most enjoyable part of work was clocking off to go home.
Pros
None unlike what they tell you
Cons
Early hours

Member services (Former Employee) - Ringwood VIC - 4 February 2021
I stated Costco 2019 as food court assistant it was a bit hard for me catchup with the team but with all the Help I was best at my job. After years passed by I got a chance to go to front end as member service assistant. And it was the best experience after all best management. Loved the place.

Nice place to work
Merchandising/Stocker (Former Employee) - Lidcombe NSW - 6 January 2021
Worked for 5 years. Had wonderful time there. Learning new things everyday. Sometime they call too early for Morning Shift. Overall good company to work.

Not a very nice place
Not saying (Former Employee) - North Brisbane QLD - 17 November 2020
Two sets of rules, depending which high up manager your friends with. If you report the bullying, the persons behaviour is excused due to the pressure of the job and your fobbed off. Do not obey their own Code of Conduct. The longer you stay with the company, the triple your job load gets. New staff aren’t trained correctly, often the employees who have been with the company longer are made to pick the slack up for newer staff. There are some generally great managers within this company, unfortunately these have been pushed aside, as promotions are only given to “friends”.
Pros
Good money
Cons
You work your guts out, with no appreciation

Global company who promotes an excellent inclusive culture
Management (Former Employee) - All Sydney NSW - 11 November 2020
Costco promotes a positive inclusive culture but unfortunately this is smoke and mirrors. Staff are worked to exhaustion without recognition and you will only get noticed if your mates with Management. Staff are advised that unless you work in the company for several years Management will not acknowledge your existence nor give you any credit for hard work. One Manager took credit for another staff members work in front of the wider team. I was excited to work for this company but left jaded and truely disappointed
Pros
The peers that I worked with
Cons
Long hours, lack of acknowledgement for good work.

Not a job for everyone!
Front End Assistant (Former Employee) - Ipswich QLD - 17 October 2020
Long hours and physically demanding work despite good pay. No rotation of weekend work so work/life balance is poor. Great if you love dealing with people but if you get on the wrong side of management it can be very stressful. Friendly staff in general but the powers that be are very demanding performance wise and it is their way or the highway! Not a job for everyone!
Pros
Free membership Allowance for Optical yearly
Cons
No weekend rotation of shifts
