Great family like business
Cashier/Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Salt Spring Island, BC9 May 2019
This company is a great example of community involvement. It also has an awesome reward system for employees that helps with the expensive cost of living on the island. The owner is approachable and listens to all concerns. Only thing that stands out is to watch when being hired that all promises are met. Lots of incentives but unless really reminded they don't follow through. Great staff and awesome customers.
Pros
discounts, gift awards
Cons
low wages

Supervisors and management is a joke
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Royal Oak, BC6 February 2019
When I worked there as an cashier. I noticed how certain supervisor favored some of the cashiers and treated others poorly.
Management was told and never did anything.
They always called you in, even on your days off, saying they're short staff.
Never showed appreciate for all the work you would do for the company.
Assistant manger should not be in there position, not professional at the job. (Immature, gossip and no confidentiality)
Pros
some staff are good to work with
Cons
poor management

Great place if you like politics.
General Labourer (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC23 September 2018
Lots of unhappy employees. Lots of gossip and two faced people. Management is a joke. Lots of family members involved.
Problems never get resolved because management is intertwined with staff. Nothing is confidential with HR, so don't say anything or your name will be out there.

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Miri25 August 2018
Fun working environment. Comfortable working environment. Management needs a little bit of improvement. Most enjoyable part of the job is getting to finish tasks given by employers with working colleagues.

management is terrible
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC6 August 2018
Management at this store do not follow the rights of their employees related to mental health and over works everybody to the bone and refuses to hire anyone. They hire family members which creates conflict of interest and allows large amounts of favoritism. And management will give any reason to fire people they don't like; at this location the environment makes it feel like your in high school all over again and you have to be in your own special click in order to work their.
Pros
the pay, co workers
Cons
management, under staffed

Grocery Clerk (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC4 August 2018
Terrible place management is all friends and family of the owners. They'll work you to death while protecting the jobs of useless family staff members. Management has no clue what they are doing and refuse to listen to staff.
Pros

Alright place to work
Cake Decorator (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC8 March 2018
Management does try to make it a good place. Christmas party is nice and they give out bonuses at Christmas. Low wages. Personally had to deal with some catty and mean co workers but that would entirely depend on who you are working with

Good For a First Time Job
Cafe Worker (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC18 February 2018
For an early job the job wasn't bad. Steady pay raises and decent hours kept me happy most of the time. My coworkers were always friendly and it was a lot of fun. That said I found depending on the department you were in and who the management was at the time, sectional managers could be a problem, and what caused me to leave. That being said the problems were with certain people, but the company as a whole was good to work for

Country Grocer
Meat Cutter (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC12 January 2018
I have worked for a few grocery companies, some large corporate companies and some small family owned companies. Country Grocer is a smaller family owned grocery company and they have been by far the best employer/grocer company I have worked for. They see the importance of their employees and that family comes first. The upper management do not look down on their employees but appreciate them. If they ever opened up a grocery store in Alberta I wouldn't hesitate to work for them again.
Pros
Discount on groceries, great benefits, pleasant, friendly work place
Cons
Wages are lower than other grocery companies for skilled workers, Department Management needs to manage/lead better

Good, fun place to work. Awesome staff members who all help one another get the job done. Only down side was management was only there during the day, then it was up to supervisors on evenings and weekends. Good training and food environment. Customers as well as staff really made it feel like family.
