Working at this job consisted of keeping the retail floor neat and tidy, approaching customers, checking company e-mails, stocktake, processing transactions including gift cards and member reward points. This was my first retail job and I had learned all of the above mentioned skills. This job has helped me come out of my shell in being confident to talk with customers and how to manage time and multiple tasks in a retail environment. The management at this job was okay, I felt some disconnect with the authorities as I did not see them often and I felt sometimes lost on what I should do in certain situations and this can also be included as being on of the harder things of the job.
Secondly it was quite hard to have consistent shifts as I was a casual and the company always prioritised part-time/full-time workers and that there was no shift system that allowed all employers to choose the shifts that fits them, instead employees had to find other employee contact numbers to ask for shifts. Thirdly, although the pay was decent the shifts can be rather long, especially if it is a quiet day and you are standing up from 9-5pm. Lastly, I always felt pressured to sell as the company e-mails over enthusiastically encouraged us to sell sell sell, so maybe for beginners this can add pressure and feel uncomfortable.
