fun work place with a fun vibe

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
over all each day would start with walking across the island witch was good might i say to witch ever kitchen you were assigned to and then you would start to set up or packing depending on what time your shift started . I learned all about safe food handling and most of the steps to a healthy well working kitchen . I also learnt how to speak and deal with customers in a professorial manner . A very enjoyable part of the jobs way the location and the amount of new people i would get to meet from all around the world and the hardest part would have been working so far way from my family and friends.

Pros

working on a beautiful island

Cons

having your work life and personal life as one

Terrible place to work

Terrible place to work bad management poor conditions for staff living here is like a prison The GM micro manger’s the resort doesn’t know what is going on only cares about him self he would not know what service means Staff and not live on this island the management are watching you day and night there is not anything to do after work

F&b

Literally my worst hospitality experience, I quitted the industry after this.Long hours not enough money, they even "make mistakes" with the amount of hours you did.

Ok

Not sure it was ok I helped with the other workers with different type of work that they wanted me to help with like, giving them tools and just being told when to do it and how to do it.

Amazing experience

Loving my time on the island. I have made so many amazing friends that are now like my family. Management is great and considers the opinions of the staff.

Very friendly environment

This is a great environment with a lot of potentials. Management is friendly. You get a lot of training. They are not afraid of investing in their employees. They go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Pros

Meal and transport subsidies

Cons

Cyclones

great pace to live

Very old and tired, Needs a major upgrade to all facilities. A beautiful area to be in unfortunately Management were very hit and miss and did not believe in preventative maintenance.

Island living is good

Small in comparison to the other whitsunday islands, closer to the mainland though. Great fun, average pay but plenty of staff social events help to make you feel at home when living in the staff quarters (old resort). Facilities for staff and guests alike are fairly outdated and in need of some serious TLC. Other than that, great place to work.

Pros

Staff

Cons

lack of facilities

Staff accommodation had bedbugs

If bedbugs are your thing go for it, but the jobs on this island are high turnover. If you quietly complain about bedbugs because you need to walk into resort rooms and are worried that they might spread they will deny it and find a reason to get you next boat off the island.

Pros

Its an Island Life

Cons

BedBugs, Bad Managment

Island life

It was a short experience and leaned very little but overall I did find job rewarding. However management was poor and the organisation plus food on sight was horrible

Island Resort - family friendly - on site housing

Family resort in great barrier reef area - awesome environment - grueling pace of resort. Very busy but rewarding. 9am-9pm workdays - buffet service, catering, weddings, fine dining. Indoor outdoor outlets. Hardest part was a constantly rotating staff.

Pros

Tropical Island - wildlife

Cons

Limited travel

Great place to meet new people

I thoroughly enjoyed my time working on the island. I was fortunate enough to work at the a la carte restaurant which was steadily getting better reviews whilst I was working there. The management weren't easy to please, even when we did exceed expectations but I couldn't say a bad word against the kitchen, bar and front of house team.

Pros

cheap/good accommodation, good salary

Cons

management

A great place to work

While I was working there I caught up with friends on the boat trip over there and every day was different some days I was looking after weddings and some days I was just doing my normal tasks I learnt a lot when I was there and the managers showed me some great tips on how to be a better worker and there ended up been my close friends

Pros

I made some great friends

Cons

I had to replkace my work shoes every month

Lovely Island

Lovely Island though in desperate need of a makeover. Work was on/off. A typical day was meet and greet guests arriving onto the island and delivering luggage to there rooms. Management needs work but co workers where a great help. The hardest part of the job was delivering bags in a timely manner with large groups.

Pros

Live and work on a tropical island in the Whitsundays

Cons

Constant work, management

Great working culture, lovely food, close travel to mainland, great activities and restaurants

Wash dishes, cutlery and heavy service equipment including large pots and pans • Clean kitchen walls, benches and floors and take out rubbish bins • Operate commercial dishwashers and cleaning chemicals • Maintain cleanliness and sanitizing of all surfaces • Dismantle and clean specialised kitchen equipment in a hygienic manner • Work effectively within a team environment and providing a high standard of internal customer service Deep cleaning of kitchen equipment including hoods, stoves, grill plates, hot plates, ovens, fryers, walls, floors and benches etc. Supervising staff on shift I learnt the best techniques on how to deep clean a kitchen and good management skills to supervise staff My Co- workers were great people to work with and associate after work on days off Keeping my work to a minimum amount of hours as I found I had a lot of work for my job description Working on an island in the Whitsundays and enjoying working with great people

working on Daydream Island was a wonderful experience

Meeting wonderful people each week. the challange of creating a new retail store on the Island. learning new skills within Marketing/buying / selling and displays. My co-workers were fantastic and we would "bounce" new ideas off each other. after 5 years the hardest part of my job was when I resigned to move back to Redcliffe to be with family.
