About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is one of seven departments within the Victorian Government. The department's main purpose is to assist the Government to achieve its vision of a safe and just Victoria, and consists of business units and statutory entities aligned under ten key functions. These include police and prosecution, prison and – more... community corrections services, various tribunals and agencies established to protect citizens' rights, emergency management, emergency services, policy on racing and gaming issues and the provision of legal advice to government.

With approximately 7,000 staff in over 50 business units and service agencies across Victoria, the department offers a diverse range of employment opportunities. Positions include Prison Officers, Community Corrections Officer, Sheriff Officers, Forensic Scientists and Pathologists, Clinicians, Psychologists, Legal Officers, Human Resources, Finance, Communications, and Administration. The department also delivers Graduate and Traineeship opportunities.

Shift work is essential, week end work is required. Yearly training essential. Lots of variety of work experience. Prisoners are easier to manage than staff. Management to not support staff effectively.
