Worst work place ever

Very much a boys club, very little support from other youth officers and management. Very judgemental workplace, unsupportive when injured, through not fault of yours, Sacked unfairly due to my injuries. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS WORK PLACE.

Productive

A lot of dictaphone typing of legal documents. Learnt a lot about community services and youth work. My co-workers were wonderful people. The hardest part of the job was having to return abused children back to an unstable environment. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to assist young, troubled youth.

Pros

Company car and phone

Cons

Being on-call and taking work home.

Challenging Workplace with rewarding outcomes

*Following Routines to the minute, Hard working and very mentally challenging working with young offenders * I learnt to be thick skinned and to relate with youth well. * I found management to be very clicky. And you didn't get places if you where not liked. * Working in such a dangerous environment you needed to know that your co workers had your back and you need to work very close as a team. I felt very comfortable and safe with all the teams I worked with. *Hardest part of the job was the challenges of Young people working with you day to day. * Working with some very interesting young people and interacting with the young people.

Pros

Great hourly rate and shift allowances

Cons

very mentally draining

Team work and support for each other

I am currently on a 24 hour rotating shift work roster working 6 days on and 3 days off.I enjoy all aspects of my job and have great job satisfaction. I find it difficult working the night shift and I only have one full weekend off each 6 weekends.I work within a team of 4 worker and I am Youth officer 1 within this team. I work as a part of this team and also at times alone. My team is a close nit group of people and we have a close working relationship with respect for each other. This team is 1 of 3 teams within the unit I am attached to. All staff within this unit appear to mix and communicate well providing support and encouragement in this sometimes harsh environment. The hardest aspect of my job woud be the physical restraining that at times is required due to fights and conflict with the detainee's.The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing the change in some of the detainees as they progress through the juvenile justice system and when released knowing that there risk of reoffending has been lowered.

Pros

making a difference in a child life

Cons

shift work
