The most useful review selected by IndeedMy experience after more than 5 years was negative if you hadn’t come from a rail background or from opposition company in Newcastle which a lot seemed to have come from it wasn’t a case of what you know rather whom you worked with previously.

Good wages
Cons
Poor management, bullying and harassment ignored

High energy productive workplace
Contract Manager (Former Employee) - Melbourne, VIC - 6 November 2015
Great environment to work in with very supportive management. Zero Harm is embedded in the culture as it is fundamental to Downers future success. We deliver on our promises with excellence. Like any large company there is a lot of red tape, so some things take longer than expected. There is a lot of different directions than you can develop and the hard workers move up the chain quickly.
Pros
Great team environment
Cons
Red tape

Very pressurised work environment
Contracts Manager (Current Employee) - Newport, VIC - 27 October 2015
Challenging- always re-active approach and always on the edge in issues and customer complaints.
Its a good environment to work with and a great wealth of knowledge to learn and keep contributing to the industry on a regular basis.

30 year rail maintenance contract working on state of the art rolling stock
Service Delivery Manager (Current Employee) - Auburn NSW - 27 October 2015
Having a 30 year rail maintenance contract means that working on these trains is a neccessity until the through life support contract is expired. Rail is ever growing and expanding and this industry and company are stalwarts in the NSW market.
Pros
Flexibility to create rosters to suit personal life and business needs
Cons
high personnel turn over

Disappointed that the top management has very limited experience in Civil engineering, they are more focused on bituminous surfacing.

A good company with good equipment and support.
Pre-strip haul truck operator (Former Employee) - Moranbah, QLD - 15 September 2014
Shifts were 12.5hrs. As I was on a traineeship I went through a steep
learning curve and did learn a lot. It was not easy at first and re-
quired a great deal of concentration to absorb everything. I found
it all come together after about 10mths and could really then hone my skills. It was a large prestrip operation with great equipment
like the Komatsu 930E,830E and Bucyrus 4400.
Management was supportive and if advice or help was needed it was never a problem. There was some really good people working for the company from a wide diversity of backgrounds. The best part
is the people of a company and I felt Downer did well in recruiting
a people friendly work force in general.
Pros
Accommodation meals and transport provided
Cons
Long hours
