Very inclusive environment

My experience after more than 5 years was negative if you hadn’t come from a rail background or from opposition company in Newcastle which a lot seemed to have come from it wasn’t a case of what you know rather whom you worked with previously.

Pros

Good wages

Cons

Poor management, bullying and harassment ignored

productive work place with great staff

I enjoyed my two times at Tenix, although both on contracts, as I found all the staff and management very helpful. I would have no hesitation if required, to rejoin this company.

Pros

Work life balance

Enjoying the job, because as designer being in a big project is every designers dream

the company is very good as all the department are incorporating to attain one goal and deliver the job on time without any mistakes

Pros

Salary is good and lot of overtime pay

Cons

As project base employee, after the project you have to find another again, the job security is very poor

A big company...

I have been provided with a variety of opportunities over the years I have worked here. There are a lot of rules around corporate culture and we're lucky to be working for them.

High energy productive workplace

Great environment to work in with very supportive management. Zero Harm is embedded in the culture as it is fundamental to Downers future success. We deliver on our promises with excellence. Like any large company there is a lot of red tape, so some things take longer than expected. There is a lot of different directions than you can develop and the hard workers move up the chain quickly.

Pros

Great team environment

Cons

Red tape

Team work environment

Contract was for eight months. Great team effort to get the job done with safety a priority. Co-workers knew their jobs and got on well.

Very pressurised work environment

Challenging- always re-active approach and always on the edge in issues and customer complaints. Its a good environment to work with and a great wealth of knowledge to learn and keep contributing to the industry on a regular basis.

30 year rail maintenance contract working on state of the art rolling stock

Having a 30 year rail maintenance contract means that working on these trains is a neccessity until the through life support contract is expired. Rail is ever growing and expanding and this industry and company are stalwarts in the NSW market.

Pros

Flexibility to create rosters to suit personal life and business needs

Cons

high personnel turn over

It was a rather good company to work with. Lots of challenges working across all states of Australia. A Calculative culture, with pockets above and below. Safety is important from the corporate office

Good culture towards safety

Disappointed that the top management has very limited experience in Civil engineering, they are more focused on bituminous surfacing.

A good company with good equipment and support.

Shifts were 12.5hrs. As I was on a traineeship I went through a steep learning curve and did learn a lot. It was not easy at first and re- quired a great deal of concentration to absorb everything. I found it all come together after about 10mths and could really then hone my skills. It was a large prestrip operation with great equipment like the Komatsu 930E,830E and Bucyrus 4400. Management was supportive and if advice or help was needed it was never a problem. There was some really good people working for the company from a wide diversity of backgrounds. The best part is the people of a company and I felt Downer did well in recruiting a people friendly work force in general.

Pros

Accommodation meals and transport provided

Cons

Long hours

My first job in Australia. The company underwent a paradigm shift in the business model and now it is rollingstock asset management company. So the experience is quite diversified and rewarding.
