Working for DSM is head but fulfilling work. Work crews are easy to get along with. Owners are great people to work for. Be honest and they will look out for your interests.

Terrible
Production Worker (Former Employee) –  Schenectady, NY9 July 2019
They kinda sell you on the job when you’re in orientation on how great the atmosphere is but once you start working you realize it was a big lie. You even have to document when you use the restroom the senior operators don’t follow GMP rules and at the end of the day it is definitely not worth the hard work and labor you put in.

worst place ever
Production Worker (Former Employee) –  Schenectady, NY29 May 2019
worked 6 yrs there. over worked, harassed all the time. they make up b.s rules and levels of offenses as they go. mandatory 6 days a week in the summer 2 ppl off for vacation time at a time, every shift is for themselves. u work 8 1/2 hrs because they dont pay for lunch, you get 1 10 minute break. there california plant gets 2 15 min breaks and a paid lunch break. if you love over time and being harassed telling you to work faster and need to produce more go ahead. alot of products there cause cancer. if you call out twice you get deducted on your quaterly bonus wtf does that. says you cant use your sick time. i got fired for b.s thats not even a rule at the company . worst horrible place ever dont work here youl never move up you get less then 50 cents for a raise every yr at this place the most i ever got in 6 yrs was 39 cents for a raise. you can bust your nutz here and you wont move up or ever get promoted.

Production operater
Production Worker (Former Employee) –  South Bend, IN21 May 2019
This place is toxic. Management communicated poorly. They always have broken equipment. They spend time in and money in other places instead of things that really need attention. They will use you by any means necessary to get the work done. "Getting the work done"is all they care about. They don't care who do it or if the have break procedures to do it. Your issues will go no where with management or HR. It's was they worst place I've worked and my life.

Cultures Operator - Internship (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WI23 April 2019
Most of the work done by an operator was mindless unless quality issues arose which provided the opportunity for you to showcase your skills. Other than those times it was mindless.

Lots of travel
Senior Manager (Current Employee) –  Parsippany, NJ20 April 2019
Employees cover a large territory that requires lots of travel which makes a work life balance difficult to maintain. The compensation and benefits are excellent and most managers are fantastic. There has been lots of changes to the workplace culture and not all of them have been positive.

Great people to work with.
Consultant (Former Employee) –  Freeport, TX8 April 2019
The people are great to work with. Family environment.

The Freeport site is used as a training ground for DSM management. The turnover rate is 2-3 years per manager. There are 7 managers at any given time. They are there to prove themselves to corporate leadership and many times the ego gets in the way for the good of the plant.

Toxic Environment Led by incompetent people
Production (Former Employee) –  Wilmington, MA25 March 2019
Makes good product despite shortcomings. Current management - specifically NA Ops Director and Production Manager - do not belong in respective roles - even small errors are not tolerated - both are liars - pretend to be concerned about safety - in reality only concerned about schedule and output - safety only when convenient or suits their purpose. As two-faced as they come - if only Dutch management knew their true colors!! Many good people have been forced to leave or left on their own due to recent management changes. It is a union shop and management HATES that fact - will do whatever they can to BUST the union - watch yourselves BOYZ!

A Good Place to Work
Manager (Current Employee) –  Parsippany, NJ1 November 2018
Let's quit comparing any company to a mythological standard. All companies exist to make money and DSM is no different, The difference is that DSM goes further than any other company before they have to lay people off and they are compassionate when they do so.

And of course they have managers that should not be but every company has this. DSM has an extensive management development program where any willing manager can develop her skills.

They care about the environment, the people, and spend an enormous amount of money on their development. They pay 80% of the health care premium and have incentives for living healthy. Benefits also include 3 weeks paid vacation to start, life, short-term disability, long-term disability plus others, and every year I have been there, they have provided an average salary increase of 3% even when they did not meet their financial goals.

So, is DSM perfect? Of course not. But taken as a whole, there are very few companies out there that can compare. Finally, I write this being one of the employees in the Materials group where it was announced that they would be investing less in. This means we have to do more with less and will probably get sold off.. Even then, DSM is a good place to work.
Pros
The company has a heart and truly cares equally about People, Plant & Profits.
Cons
A bit too "one world" mindset.

Dangerous place to work
Laboratory Technician (Former Employee) –  Augusta, GA 3090930 October 2018
During my time working at the DSM site in Augusta, GA I always felt unsafe working there. The chemicals are very dangerous and so many people that have worked there have developed cancer. Although safety was a outstanding, the chemical exposure was awful.

Great pay

Good Company - Still letting employees go
On-Site Support Engineer (Former Employee) –  Winchester, KY25 October 2018
Good Company - but have been letting employees for almost 10 years now. This does not give a person a very good feeling if they will have a job or not. This is not the environment that will keep people when they do not know if they have a job or not.

Benefits were good, job not to hard, but some management staff could be changed to make life better.
Pros
Good Benefits, Good People
Cons
Never know when you will loose your job

Poor trust no one
DSMWorker (Former Employee) –  Schenectady, NY18 October 2018
This is for DSM Schenectady NY.
Don't trust management or say anything to HR if you havr a problem, they will act as if they defending you, and then throw your case out. Go to work and just do your job. Trust no one, they back stab you real bad. Don't speak up in meetings , never speak for your right,
There is no such thing in that company, they will get rid of you. Work you took you drop, no family life, if you talk up, they get rid of you.
Pros
Good benefit
Cons
Trust no one
