Constant organisation changes, Stressful

* Poor work culture* Great opportunities and pay increases for graduates but not for long term staff.* Contractors & permanent Staff performances are compared equally during restructures and redundancies. But permanent staff need to complete additional internal organisation certifications & KPI obligations.* Middle management are powerless within the matrix organisation - confusion between projects and line management are consistent. My manager does not know my job function...

Pros

free food and drinks if your project has the funds

Cons

long hours, stress, high rate of divorces, plateau in career development

Typical Service Based Company

Best part across the organisation is there is no concept of micromanagement. Telecommute is encouraged as long as target is achieved. Also flexible to work from home (if project / client agrees). Seldom sugar coated speeches, most of the time it is direct transparent picture from management (Good or bad news) Good in-house facilities like breakfast, fruit box and mobile plans. Sometimes, it gets hard to work with another part / team of organisation due to cumbersome processes.

Pros

Chilled out workplace. Higher management is easy to approach / transparent

Cons

Salary hike / bonus > minimal to Nil Minimum in-house training

Australian operations downsizing

Ericsson was a great place to work when I started over 23 years ago. The opportunities I had working in other countries and the people I met was great. Ramping up of competition in the vendor market space, global economic pressures and increasing pressure on operational profitability has taken a lot of the personal touch that made this company special away. Toward the end of my employment, I often did 12 to 16 hour days trying to align to meetings around numerous time zones and continents. The additional hours were considered as professional time, and it became increasingly hard to find any work/life balance.

Perfect Place to Work

It was a delight to work for Ericsson Australia. I joined Ericsson as my first company that I worked for and learnt so much from my co-workers and management team. Every day was so much fun and at the same time with so many learning.

Company that provides great development, support and guidance to grow a successful career

Every day brings new challenges and opportunities in Ericsson. It is vital to embrace and support this for a long and successful career. The company has a great group of employees that will walk the extra mile for its peers. Ericsson is highly outcome based, so accountabilities are clear. However this is supported through strong reward and recognition, team building, etc. to strike a balance. Processes are a large part of Ericsson and the way of working. This is to ensure that Ericsson delivers products/services to the highest possible level. This can be a challenge for some people who like to "break the rules".

Pros

Competence development and career progression/opportunities

Cons

Dynamic workplace, hence suitable only to those who embrace change

Company care only about profit & happy shareholders

There are managers and their working bees. Managers are full of ideas how their bees should work, selfdevelop, adjust themself to the all changes of the business environment, to be innovative, etc. And they will also keep their working bees informed about how happy are shareholders with them! However these managers will never get involved with the actual implementation of such wonderful ideas. They will simply empower poor bees, which now have to do not only their daily work, but at the same time, their selfdevelopment, analyzing global financial and business trends, generate multi-millions work improvements, etc., etc. All that is really great, however it is simply not fitting into available time = 24 hours. Working bees will become completely "burnt out". Members of their families will see them only sporadically during some long weekends. As a direct result of that the working environment became quite bizare. Trust will simply vaporize to thin air and everybody is only protecting their own working mini-field. And at this point of time the managers will come with another wondreful idea. Their will decide to share all these crazy achievements with some under-develop countries via a magic outsourcing. Some of their current, lucky bees will get "a marching order package" and that will be the best for them. Others will be persuaded by managers to "grab a lifetime opportunity", accept ~6 months separation from their families, flying repeatedly to 3rd world countries to share their vaste knowledge with the new breed of bees. God bless you!

Pros

Getting still a pay

Cons

Development of many serious health issues and forgetting smell of flowers, ability to see sunset and nature beauty, simply you are a zombee

Brilliance and style !!!

I had the luck to work in their brand new offices at Docklands. What a change from the old factory and Broadmeadows, and what a scenery !!! This is certainly one of my favourite jobs so far, is a very well structured organisation, excellent and continuous training provided, and a very well developed team building program, made really good friends back then and we still in touch until now.

Pros

Brilliant location and scenery

Cons

You never want to leave the office...
