It is important to be professional and passionate about teaching and at Global Education Academy tutors are experts in the curriculum and teach using the same methods that children learn in the classroom.

Supportive workplace with collaborative colleagues

As a new staff member of GEA, I felt very welcomed by my colleagues. Everyone is very friendly and supportive. I was able to settle into the new work environment very quickly. At GEA, they provide quality resources to help students understand English and Mathematical concepts more easily. It's great to see that the students dissect the questions and build their understanding and problem-solving skills. I highly recommended anyone to work at GEA.

Pros

Professional team, job security, flexible work hours

Supportive and Collaborative Environment

Everyone is there to look out for the best interests of their students. They are happy to give you advise on anything. They also encourage you to be creative in your teaching techniques.

Bad place to work

GEA does not treat employees correctly. While the administration are great at their job the management do not know how to run a business with employees. Parent and student complaints are treated as gospel even if they are unreasonable or covering up poor student performance. Students are trained to pass the GEA units but not given a wider education.

Cons

Employee treatment

Official response from Global Education Academy

At GEA we have high standards of employees (admin and teachers). To keep the high quality promised to parents and students, we need to ensure the quality of teaching; methodology and delivery. Hence, it is inevitable, sometimes, to let staff go especially following multiple attempts to support and help them lift their performance.

Professional college

GEA is a highly professional tutoring company which produces its own quality teaching resources . The resources are well chosen which makes it easier to teach as the students find them interesting . There is plenty of work available , due to popularity of courses .Younger teachers benefit from exposure to these resources and opportunities for participation in resource development . Staff are qualified experienced teachers with a good mix of high school and primary teachers . Teachers are expected to do regular marking and documentation of student progress ,

Pros

Proximity to transport - collegiate approach

It's not what it seems

The school looks professional: everyone employed is required to wear uniform, stationery and materials are provided, the classrooms are also in good condition. You won't get a job there, however, if you don't have your own ABN. I don't believe it is the correct arrangement - for the size of such college tutors definitely should be employees, not contractors. Presumably, the cornerstone of this tutoring school, what sets it apart from others is applying CLT (Cognitive Load Theory), which, however, does not seem to be reflected in the structure of materials used - no obvious fragmenting or scaffolding of information presented. This break-down into "digestible" chunks does not seem to happen in the teaching I had observed either. Work-life balance is good, and so is the location - 5 mins from the train station. As classes are run after school (3:30-7:30), usually 4:00-6:00pm, it is possible to combine your regular work (if you are employed at primary or high school for example) and at Global Education Academy. I hope other teachers feel valued and supported. I certainly was not, the feeling I had was that it is a well-oiled machine: no staff interactions, zero emotions. If one of the parts (staff) experiences some difficulty, a replacement is easily available. The administrator, receptionist and overall school manager is the owner's daughter, which can be helpful on some occasions and counterproductive on others. The most enjoyable part of the job was the actual teaching and learning about my students: what they know, where they need to be, identifying the gap and addressing -
