Collaborative workspace with opportunities to grow

Indeed Featured review

The best part about working at GEA is I feel like my ideas are heard by the staff. There is a great collaborative atmosphere. It's a very happy place to be and the team is very kind and proactive.

Pros

Great staff, good coffee, bright and happy workplace

Fantastic place to work

Global Education Academy is a great place to work. I'm based at the Kogarah campus and have been employed there for almost 4 years now. The flexible hours work well for me and the culture of the place is awesome. I would highly recommend Global Education Academy for anyone looking for a job in a fun, dynamic work environment.

Pros

Flexible work hours, Dynamic work environment, Job security

It's not what it seems

The school looks professional: everyone employed is required to wear uniform, stationery and materials are provided, the classrooms are also in good condition. You won't get a job there, however, if you don't have your own ABN. I don't believe it is the correct arrangement - for the size of such college tutors definitely should be employees, not contractors. Presumably, the cornerstone of this tutoring school, what sets it apart from others is applying CLT (Cognitive Load Theory), which, however, does not seem to be reflected in the structure of materials used - no obvious fragmenting or scaffolding of information presented. This break-down into "digestible" chunks does not seem to happen in the teaching I had observed either. Work-life balance is good, and so is the location - 5 mins from the train station. As classes are run after school (3:30-7:30), usually 4:00-6:00pm, it is possible to combine your regular work (if you are employed at primary or high school for example) and at Global Education Academy. I hope other teachers feel valued and supported. I certainly was not, the feeling I had was that it is a well-oiled machine: no staff interactions, zero emotions. If one of the parts (staff) experiences some difficulty, a replacement is easily available. The administrator, receptionist and overall school manager is the owner's daughter, which can be helpful on some occasions and counterproductive on others. The most enjoyable part of the job was the actual teaching and learning about my students: what they know, where they need to be, identifying the gap and addressing -

Pros

professional presentation, keen students, hours

Cons

management, workplace culture, job security
