A once great engineering culture, hampered by tooling and leadership problems
Software Engineer (Former Employee) - Sydney australia - 6 April 2023
Leadership seems to not trust their staff anymore leading to secrets, surprises and uncertainty. Objectives change frequently, teams are shut down before they have a chance to prove their worth. They also prioritise coding over people skills leading to capable jerks getting preferential treatment. Work life balance is hard to enforce. Still, great benefits, and lots of opportunities internally. There are really lovely people there, and managers tend to care about their teams. The hardest part was generally realising that the tools didn't work the way you expected, like, all the time. Almost everything has to be internally made, leading to waste and stress as you have to learn the internal versions of everything (even C++).
