Love the people but extremely draining
Crew Member (Casual) (Former Employee) - South Yarra VIC - 29 November 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOver all a good first job to get some better experience in workforce and the people are extremely fun, but I found that I was being told to do 5 things at once. After some time the shifts become completely unreliable and extremely restricting. And the work/life balance goes out the window. I would get home and have no motivation to do things that involve my thinking as after work my brain feels like mush

toxic place never want to work again
Staff (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 28 November 2023
Bad high management culture. It is really toxic and political. Head office and HR all intoxic. The policies are changed according to people culture, relations to management team and head office
Pros
Discount
Cons
No appreciation, work life balance

Fun work place , great people , management and pay poor
Crew Member (Current Employee) - Werribee Plaza VIC - 9 November 2023
The people that work at gyg are great , All my fellow employees are really nice and I get along with them . However. it’s minimum wage , and working here at a young age you do the same work as adults and sometimes even more . After working so hard you get the pay check and it’s. not even that much.

Very fast paced productive job
Crew Member (Former Employee) - Tullamarine VIC - 6 November 2023
A typical day at working in GYG is being assigned on what to do he doing that day. Management was absolutely foul. They expect you to work ridiculous hours while your still in high school. Best part of the job was making friendships.
Pros
50% off your food is pretty good, As well as making great friends.
Cons
Management was so absolutely insane, The way they have the audacity to be spoken to like that.

Good but unstable
Sales and Food Preparation (Current Employee) - Ipswich QLD - 19 October 2023
Good relationships between coworkers. Most people dislike management. Shift leaders aren't trained properly, but are instead thrown into a new role directing 5-10 other people per shift with not much idea of what to do, because we are too short-staffed to train them. However, I enjoy working there still. Most people are happy and friendly and almost everyone is polite and respectful to each other. Food is pretty good and pay for me as a junior casual is minimum ($12.36/hr). Hours can be ok but fluctuate a lot. Sometimes 0 shifts, sometimes 4-5 shifts a week.

great workplace, horrid management
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 19 October 2023
its so good for a first job, they will give you heaps of hours especially if youre young, but they also cut hours abruptly, can be unreliable management sucks

not bad not great
Sales (Former Employee) - Gold Coast QLD - 17 October 2023
The job itself is mind numbingly boring, if you are good they will give you a lot of shifts which is good but expect to be doing the exact same thing day in and day out, the people you work with however will be great.

Great for a first job, maybe not long-term
Crew Member (Former Employee) - Brisbane QLD - 9 October 2023
Overall, working here poses as a good choice for anyone looking for their first job as it teaches you pretty much everything hospitalty-wise. You also learn to work in a fast-paced environment and how to handle all types of customers. You learn some independance too. I only ended up staying for as long as a year bc I was lucky enough to have friendly coworkers, however the work does get boring and repetitive overtime. If they find you're good at something, you're likely to stay in that position forever unless you tell them you want to be placed elsewhere.
Pros
50% off discount for food, made some good friends, a good first job
Cons
Repetitive work

its ok
Kitchen Hand/Cook (Current Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 1 October 2023
good first job for newbies. workplace is good, people are friendly. management asks for feedback and input from staff on how to move things forward. overall, not a bad place to start

Don’t be a manager
Restaurant Manager (Former Employee) - Melbourne VIC - 18 September 2023
Great workplace for a casual employee, but you don’t get treated that great when you move up into higher positions by head office/Op coaches and state managers

miserable
Kitchen Hand/Cashier (Former Employee) - Maroochydore QLD - 13 September 2023
pay was mid and management sorta sucks but fellow crew is very friendly. one of the worst and best jobs i have worked, the employee discount actually makes their burritos affordable which is a bonus ig

Not good (please read why)
Kitchen Hand (Current Employee) - Cranbourne VIC - 12 September 2023
Very small space at the back with pretty much no windows or any sort of air flow for that matter when working in the kitchen hard to breathe so as you can imagine it was very hard getting used to working back there especially with all the cutting and prepping all the foods while just standing upright for hours just repeating the same task over and over it honestly got me feeling nauseous and lightheaded my first time and it doesn’t make it any better from the fact that whole workplace is just so small and squishy and there’s often quite a bit of other people working so overall I just came into this job thinking it would be fun but how wrong I was I’m not being biased whatsoever this is coming from experience only I literally in now way whatsoever I can recommend this job I’m telling you I got bored and hated it just from the first shift I got such a headache I had to stop honestly please if you can just pass this there is better jobs out there please don’t waste your time and excitement like I did.

Poor management and poor pay
Team Member (Former Employee) - Highpoint Shopping Centre VIC - 27 August 2023
Management was very rude, and environment was super toxic. Making mistakes was not taken lightly - I understand it is a stressful environment, but for newcomers it definitely isn’t the best place to be.
