Engineer (Current Employee) - Montréal, QC - 23 November 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe best thing about Hatch is the people that works in it, very friendly, understandable and not at all a toxic environment. There are cons, but for sure the big plus is the team

Productive workplace, many opportunities for learning and gaining experience
Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee) - Pittsburgh, PA - 18 September 2023
Pros -variety of projects -new challenges Cons -hard to move up in the company ranks, can get pigeon holed to certain tasks and skill sets -they had a hybrid plan for less than a year and then took it away for no reason

Not a bad place to work
Product Manager (Current Employee) - Palo Alto, CA - 30 August 2023
Overall, really good place to work. Little drama or politics. People are invested in overall success. Downside is that they prefer to hire vs promote within.

A place for non-professionals to thrive
Partner (Former Employee) - Johannesburg, Gauteng - 5 August 2023
If you’re looking for a place that values hierarchy over excellence look no further than hatch. A place that thrives off of malpractice and favoritism. A place where mediocrity abounds and abusive work culture is the order of the day.
Pros
Free parking, toilets, lunch break of sorts
Cons
Enabling environment for toxic work culture, weak senior executives

A place for young blood
Employee (Current Employee) - N/A - 29 June 2023
Fast-paced environment fit for young blood who are looking for a workplace that is livelier. Generally still a bit messy in terms of systems, as it's a young company, but the leadership team is one that listens.

Overall, Hatch is good company to work with.
Senior Electrical Engineer (Former Employee) - St. John's, NL - 18 June 2023
It is a fair company with more experience of front end projects, in various areas. Hatch is good for junior engineers growing and gaining experience.

Productive, exciting and fun.
Speialist Mechanical PDG (Former Employee) - Johannesburg, Gauteng - 11 May 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Working with professional and conscientious engineers. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Extreme deadlines on fast track projects. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Excellent working environment, the company culture is one of extreme honesty at all times. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Start and end times are flexible. I loved being busy all day. Sometimes it's a lot of fun and sometimes it head down and get the work out.

Disappointing, impersonal, disrespecting of professional qualifications and people.
site engineer (Former Employee) - DRC - 23 April 2023
Was employed on an expat construction site where I had combative management, no authority and was not respected or wanted by the employer.I was not invited to design reviews before going to site, nor briefed properly about the job, nor introduced to my future site manager. When i arrived on site , my nominal report - to construction manager ignored me and did not manage me. He was more friendly with the piping draughtsmen than me as site engineer.
Pros
Good salary and cafeteria in pleasant surroundings.
Cons
Exceptionally poor and non-supportive management.

Great job, terrible management
Coding Coach (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 28 November 2019
I loved the actual work of coaching java to kids. It was also great to learn java as I was teaching it. If you like working with kids this is a great job and there are great lessons for you to go though to get yourself up to speed if you're not skilled with java.
However the hours were very hard to work around. I was sent to schools all over the GTA during their lunch break and their after school hours. I managed to balance this while working other part time jobs.
One problem was that management was horrendous. I' was scheduled to pick up laptops at their main centre to take over to the school I was to coach at. When I arrived, they didn't have any laptops for me. They told me to return the following week, which I did. When I arrived they again didn't have any laptops available and also my classes were cancelled and I wasn't even notified. I asked them to pay for my travel time which they did. Very disorganized and a poor lack of communication.
Another huge problem was for their March Break camps they asked if I was available. After making arrangements with my other part time work I told them I'd do it. I went in for a March Break orientation and afterwards they said to keep an eye on my online schedule. I didn't receive any hours at all and when I inquired they didn't give me straight answers and scheduled 2 half shifts, instead of the 2 full time weeks I was supposed to work. I immediately quit after this.
Overall, the actual work is great but the management was so bad. They took on more work than they could handle and the communication was terrible. -

Decent job if you're into this sort of thing
Hatch Admin/Alpha/Prime Coach, Part-Time (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 14 November 2019
The job can consist of a lot of travelling which can sometimes be difficult if you are travelling 40min away with no compensation for only an hour's worth of actual work. The teaching component was fun and fulfilling. Class sizes were okay but they wanted to increase them by 1 which, personally became a bit much and fairly hectic.

Impractical work and poor management
Programming Coach (Current Employee) - Various Locations - 21 November 2018
Hatch Coding Canada offers very low hours to their existing employees, and does not properly assign work due to excessively disjointed management. Organization and reasonable compensation is a huge weakness.
Pros
Fun experience in teaching younger people to program
Cons
Low hours, disorganized management, unreasonable travel to each location for only ~1hr of work

Horrible Job
Head Coach (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 1 August 2018
On regular they don't give you more than 2 hrs of work. Make you travel far and they just don't care about how much you care about their students. They rather micro manage you and upper management doesn't care how its like to manage the staff and the kids at the same time. If your looking for long/mid term i'd say look else where. They don't listen to you
Pros
you get to work with kids
Cons
too much travelling, they don't care about you or your time

Lovely colleages but miss the old company culture before the merge
Project Accountant (Current Employee) - Plattekloof, Cape Town - 19 April 2017
I've learned a new financial program which is always a plus point. Miss the culture of the previous firm where we were more of a family and could interact with other branches almost yearly at staff conferences.
The hardest part of the job is staying positive as co workers are leaving more and more due to poor salary and salary increases and job uncertainty.
The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to keep myself busy and working in a peaceful environment and nice offices with lovely views, free coffee/tea facilities and close to home. Made good friends in other offices. When speaking to ex colleages, they all miss the good interaction we had with each other, whether on work or social grounds. I also have good client relationships as I've worked I the engineering industry for almost 30 years.
Pros
stay close to the office, nice colleages
Cons
no performance increase or promotion expected, but rather retrenchments
