Very unorganised

I don’t recommend this place. Shortage of staffs resulted into assigning one person a job of two. They expect you to come before your shift start but doesn’t pay overtime. Their cool rooms are way too crowded, unorganised and so narrow. Especially their freezer where it’ll take you so much time looking for things and boxes are on top of another that is not even the same products. Mostly missed my lunch because it was hectic but i needed to eat to have energy on completing the tasks. Staffs were okay but some of them were show offs to those who are in higher position. I had quite high expectations for this place but it was purely disappointing.

Great colleagues & management

I am currently in Events. Events is a team that sets functions, big breakfast, lunch and dinner for people who either does exhibition, functions, formals and many more. Job itself is not hard, colleagues and managers are amazing. Does not really require much certifications other than RSA.Downside is that unless you are studying hospitality and aiming towards hotel career, there isn't much career opportunity towards undergraduate. Ultimately, good job for university students since pay and benefit is great. But unless it relates to your study, don't think it will boost your resume much.

You’ve been warned

A nice stressful environment with managers making you feel uncomfortable and co-workers back-stabbing you to the bosses when they get the chance. All for glorious minimum wage. The ‘free lunches’ are worse than hospital food. The only good thing was hotel discounts when travelling, and the managing director was very nice, but he retired not long before I left.

Pros

Hotel discounts

Cons

TOXIC work culture

Overall a great place to work in with lots of decent perks.

I love working at the Hilton as it is one of the few places that includes a 5 star hotel as well as a 5 star fine dining restaurant and different bars upstairs.

Pros

Products, wine and food are of great quality, good hours

Cons

Low pay and can't offer much work

It is the meaningful and professional place.

I do food and beverage attendant. I have to prepare for the event, setting the rooms, tables and serve cocktail. The hardest part of the job is working till late, maybe 3, 4 am. It was very fun and meaningful for me because I have learnt many things from my managers and other staffs.

Pros

Discount voucher, free drink

workplace has poor leadership, management and drama/politics

The workplace has low morale, causing high turnover rate for chefs across all levels. Majority of the chefs especially senior levels have no sense of responsibility and ownership of their work, always looking for scapegoats (ie commis, demis, apprentice) and excuses. Overtimes are not paid in full you're lucky if they decide to pay 1-2hrs worth of overtime. Penalties however are paid properly all the time plus tool allowance which is good since the base pay is low (for comparison retail people at grocery stores or boutique will earn more than a mid-level chef). In terms of culture there is no sense of family or belonging, very little team work. Hours are good but the roosters changes on the daily basis with no consideration for the employee.

Pros

career growth and good quality cafeteria food for only $3 plus work hours on average is only8-9hrs

Cons

low pay, drama, politics

Good environment for work

Hilton is a nice place to work. I really enjoyed to work there. Management of Hilton is really nice. The hardest part is, when it was busy it's really tough for a guy to cop up with.

The group of people I worked with were like family. They learned from me and l through them. We ALWAYS worked as a team hence the reason I stayed there for almost 10years. The most difficult part was when we were understaffed, but we always mananged to get through those difficult times.

Pros

The people were the best part of the job

Cons

the distance from home to work.

Friendly workplace with a strong teamwork culture

1. Hilton Sydney is known as a very busy Conference hotel which strictly requires staff members to do long hours and be able to handle stress and pressure. Average hours of work per day is 10 hours during peak season. 2. Achievement : - Ability to work in a fast-paced and heavy volume environment. - Ability to work well in a team which provides excellent customer service. - Cooperate with all serving and kitchen staff. - Arrange meeting rooms and dining table setting. - Greet the guests and deliver great interaction by sharing experience and recommending additional information upon requests. 3. Advantage : We are a strong team whose members have good food and beverage knowledge and skills as we are all passionate about things we do and services we deliver. Our aim is to provide an outstanding guest experience based on the highest standard of hospitality, 4. Disadvantage : As one of the biggest department within a hotel, the event operations has been facing high employee turnover and staff scheduling problems due to the optimal size or mix of a workforce.

Pros

- A strong team

Cons

Rostering issues
