Was great to work for but the culture has changed
MTS Senior Account Systems Service Engineer QLD (Former Employee) –  Brisbane QLD12 June 2018
The IBM culture has changed significantly since the change in CEO a number of years ago. Employees are considered recourses that are expendable and can be replaced with cheap labor from overseas market through 3rd party outsourcing.

In saying that, in the time that I did work there, I was fortunate enough to work with many great people who dedicated 100% of their to to IBM and went over and above to contribute to it's success. Unfortunately these guys are all retiring and the culture is changing rapidly.
Pros
The people that worked their for many years to make it a success
Cons
The new culture that is trying to transform the company by dismntling what it used to be.

Old-school Enterprise IT firm, trying to change
CIO ADVISORY & CLOUD CONSULTANT (Former Employee) –  Brisbane QLD16 May 2018
IBM could have been great but is let down by onerous bureaucracy, favoritism and poor or non-existent leadership.

Workplace culture is oppressive and diminishing. Management varies between great and awful.

The most enjoyable aspect is that IBM was a great company and the depth of knowledge and understanding is second to none - there is nothing the company cannot do, but they cannot overcome the inertia.

You spend your whole time having to justify your existence and constantly looking for work as this counts towards your internal assessments. Too often left high and dry on the bench when plenty of work was available.
Pros
Good salary and benefits
Cons
No job security at all, favoritism in management.

Large organisation that is losing control
Senior IT Support Specialist (Current Employee) –  Hobart TAS17 April 2018
The 'new' IBM is a result of transitioning the business from a leading hardware manufacturer to purely a services organisation.
The old/traditional management has left long ago, and now the business is failing under poor / inexperienced executive direction.
I fear that 'Big Blue' is in for dark days ahead...
Pros
Great work-life balance
Cons
No care for workers, no good benefits, poor money

IBM's constant pursuit of the good bottom line by making redundant loyal local employees in favour of low skilled off shore workers destroyed the culture and made the firm a hard place to work.

Learned a lot, exposed to many different areas. The experience I gained at IBM positioned me well for my current role. "As many would say, you work with a lot of smart people but you also work with some bad apples who should not be there"

Technical Solutions Architect (Former Employee) –  South Melbourne VIC25 February 2018
Anybody who has worked at IBM knows what its like if you have other options take them. IBM is still a big and clunky organisation that has never totally been able to shake the legacy of its past. in many respects it shouldn't but there are much better options out there.
Pros
Workplace flexibility
Cons
bad culture

Interesting and challenging experience
Project Manager/ SME (Former Employee) –  Perth, Western Australia19 February 2018
Self motivation is key to success in IBM, but that was difficult with minimial support and no local network or knowledge having moved to Perth from overseas.
I learned to be more foreceful and self reliant and more of what is expected to represnt the logo.
The manamgement was varied in approach and expectations and changed constantly which made it confusing over longer periods, so you become adaptable.
.
Pros
All for one attitude
Cons
Lack of support from management

Test Team Leader/Manager (Former Employee) –  Sydney NSW1 February 2018
Worked for this company for over 16 years. In the end they shifted all the work to India, China or Philipines. They are very "tower" orientated and can be extremely slow in moving forward. Don't believe the hype at the Senior Exec level because it just does not get to the worker level quickly.
Pros
Exposure to a worldwide network
Cons
not really client focused

Technical Advisor to Sr.Executive (CPA) (Former Employee) –  Sydney NSW23 November 2017
It was overall good and was working in 6 months contract and nothing more to say about this. I was selected by the entity directly and told me to go to agencies for registration to wok in IBM.. I did not like it initially, but I had no alternatives to acceded it.
Pros
It was good to work with freedom
Cons
I was involved with two bosses that was made to all problems. No clear cut direction was there

IBM providing plenty of learning method to employees. Employees has fully responsible for work but guaranteed work-life balance. I could and still growing with IBM. Sometimes some unexpected works comes due to time difference worldwide. But collaborate with other world wide team experience is great value to work for IBM.
Pros
Great Work-life balance
Cons
Worldwide time difference between regional IBM
