Fast paced work environment

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Fast paced work environment. Great place to learn and better yourself all about aviation screening. Management and team leaders can be more fair to everyone. Everyone should be more welcoming.

Toxic culture

Screening officer (training)The supervisor's are great it's the staff members who think they're supervisor's barking orders at you thinking you should know everything within the first couple of shifts,a lot are miserable, obviously hate the job and take the job far too serious thinking they are something special and they have the right to talk to new trainees and passengers as if they have just stood in something. The culture on the floor needs a radical overhaul if ISS wants to retain staff.

Pros

Non

Cons

Everything

Biased to male gender. Bad for females who are used for screening purposes and never given other opportunities unless they beg for it.

Underpaid and overworked with 24 HR roster that is designed to break you in the three months while govt pays through the job agency who claim to get the job for you..75% of your wage. Then if you survive the 3 months they drop your hours to barely liveable dollars. The HR department is dreadful.

Cons

Cheapskate pay

Depending on who the supervisor was the shift was a good one

Company great, but the management was mostly about favouritism and nepotism which made it hard for them to stay impartial in some circumstances as in receiving shifts

Pros

Free car parking and breaks paid for Uniforms supplied

Cons

Long hours and travelling to and from work

Stressful environment

No support from management, shifts added or taken off with no notice, do not follow what they preach. Nepotism! No life work balance . Although I've made some great friends, working at ISS, it was one of the most stressful jobs I've had and I am a very placid calm person by nature. I would not recommend this employer I never felt supported in any way.

Pros

Pay rate

Cons

Long hours, poor breaks, bad culture

Stressful, unsupportive environment

Management doesn’t care about employees. No work life balance whatsoever Not enough pay for the work you doCompetitive workplace, always other staff trying to do better than you or stab you in the back

Do not recommend

Management are completely toxic and do not help or handle anything well at all. If you work hard, are the very best and are genuine, you will not move up or be rewarded. If you barely get by, do the bare minimum, no effort then you will be rewarded which is the biggest negative of this company. You will be shafted whenever the chance arises and things get swept under the rug whenever the chance as well…and you shouldn’t be caught in that

Pros

The amazing guards you meet who become family

Cons

Management!!

Working with semi illiterates.

Some of the people you work with don't know what they're doing, and the airport management thinks little of you, the set up of the airport is poorly designed.

Family oriented organization.

pros* paid meal breaks.* experience different situations everyday how ever it falls down to the most important thing and that is to de-escalate situations and bring everybody on the same page. * My managers at ISS are very considerate and inspirational.* Work place culture is what you make of it, treat people the way you would like to be treatedhardest part of airport security is defiantly the rotating hours although having consecutive days off is a bonus.

a nice place to work

A fast-paced facility, but you get to learn heaps of new things. However, you cannot make a carrer out of it. Supervisors are very helpful. Overall it is a good industry to get into if you are doing uni or college.

A cross all management.

Stressful. The basic training staff had no time. Poor management from the top to the supervisors. Bulling from supervisors and management only solution is to move you cut your hours so that you do leave and sack anyone that defended you.

fast paced work place, involving processing pax through the screening point

setting up equipment and testing it for the 10,000 pax on average that proceed through the Qantas terminal on a daily basis. Screening pax for dangerous and prohibited items.

Was good once

Not conducive for older workers, younger less experienced get picked in preference. Every supervisor has a different version of the rules and SOP's ...

a complete waste of time

A company that has major Management Problems You are just a pawn in the Game and Pawns are replaceable Management in Aviation is a joke just as was the previous manager who now works for another security company

Downward spiral

This company used to be great. But as they succumbed to poor performance in the wider security field, they've strictly become an aviation security only oriented firm. Which is to their own detriment. Poor mid management doesn't help Overall the pay rate doesn’t fit the workload.

Pros

Pay.

Cons

Middle management . Nil career advancement.

Great staff, poor management

No work life balance. Management treat you like robots. Poor pay and work environment. Management expect you to have no life. The company earns money from the government when hiring new staff so there is a high turnover of staff.

Pros

Meet lots of friends

Cons

No work life balance. No regular roster. Basically they expect you to have no life.

Not for everyone

Big business attitude and lack of support for employees long hours. Very poor conflict management and HR don't seem to take matters seriously. Wouldn't recommend.

ISS was a good company but the manager was not easy to approach.

There were good working security officers in the company and everyone sort of liked each other, the work environment was good, customers were friendly as well.

Great staff but terrible management and training

After a long (over 10 yrs) employment with this company, I finally realized what a terrible and unsupportive company I had been working for. It does depend on what site your stationed at, but the underlying problem is that ISS under bid for the renewal or new contracts when they come up, then realize that they need to put in short cuts to make up the losses, and that filters down to the work sites they manage, which in turn makes the workload on the employees that much more harder. They will run the screening points continuously under staff, due to sick leave and uncovered shifts, which makes it a very stressful place to work in. The ongoing training is very baldly handled, and most new training comes out in memo form. There are huge problems with management "favourites" when it comes to promotion as well. The team leaders and floor staff make the screening points run efficiently.......NOT MANAGEMENT. You will receive very little praise for your hard work and dedication, but they will constantly come down on you for the smallest of mistakes. They constantly monitor you and that gives you a feeling of distrust on the behalf of them. The money is very average considering what you have to know and do to be able to become an Aviation Protection Officer. You need to work alot of hrs and have those hours all be at a flexirate, otherwise your base rate of $23.50 just won't cut it. I no longer work for this company due to the absolute lack of support this company gives it's staff, team leaders and supervisors. I am not bitter, and I don't hold a grudge against this company, but believe -

My experience with ISS was not a satisfying one. I developed a workplace injury that caused me to leave the position.
