Awful job and management. Low pay and expected to do everything and never get praised for it. Avoid at all costs not terrible place and owner

- Ability to meet personal goals
Poor work environment and management
Chef (Former Employee) - Narre Warren South VIC - 10 November 2023
-Typical day at work: really long exhausting hours, breaks are not guaranteed. -what I believe I learnt: to not give your all at these kind of places because you will get taken advantage of. -management: lazy, disregarding, never keeps word. -workplace culture: if there is even one -_- -hardest part: everything -most enjoyable: the tiny breaks of 5mins you can sneak in if you’re lucky.
Pros
50% food (not drinks)
Cons
Long hours, breaks are not guaranteed

Doesn't pay well, good team
Café All Rounder (Former Employee) - Garden City WA - 7 August 2023
Never paid that well but I enjoyed working there. Not very busy for a shopping centre kiosk. Some regulars can get a bit annoying and expect special treatment but you learn how to deal with it.

Not bad for a first job
Café All Rounder (Former Employee) - Carindale QLD - 23 July 2023
Environment can feel fast paced at times, co workers are friendly. Can feel tiring at times on the busy days as usually, you're the only cafe all rounder giving all the food while cleaning up at the same time too. This can lead to a bunch of messy tables, so its best to ask coworkers for help. When I started, hours were good (10 hrs a week for a 14 yr old) but recently I've practically gotten 5 hours a month. Free drinks is nice and discount was nice.

Rude management and unfair treatment. Fun being a barista however it gets stressful
Barista (Former Employee) - Ellenbrook - 25 January 2023
It was a good place to work with people. Had fun being a barista with the team however the management team was quite harsh for no reason, and the floor managers were either never there or always different people.
Pros
Free drink every shift
Cons
Management is rude

Would not reccomend
Cafe all rounder (Former Employee) - Point Cook VIC - 18 November 2022
Do not work here unless you want to be absolutely disrespected every shift by toxic management and coworkers. Quickly learnt to avoid franchise cafes who are all about quantity over quality

Very difficult to work with them
Head Chef (Former Employee) - Campbelltown NSW - 2 August 2022
Very hard to work with them, everything had to do myself, they didn’t pay my salary on time, always short money, half paid half they kept with them, very dishonest, complain to head office, they didn’t take any action.
Pros
Staff has to pay for lunch
Cons
Working myself

Unfair break times
Cafe all rounder (Current Employee) - Perth WA - 28 April 2022
I worked at Jamaica blue and was only given a break if I worked more than 6 hours, so for 6 hours I would be non stop serving customers without any breaks.

If I could give a 0 I would
Cafe all rounder/Barista (Former Employee) - Cairns QLD - 22 April 2022
Recently worked for Jamaica Blue, glad to say it’s been the worst working experience I’ve ever had. Basically full time hours (36-38) for very very minimum wage. Very draining as they were completely understaffed so working extra extra hard just to deliver bare minimum standards. Completely thrown in the deep end by the managers & was forced to do job activities that I was never trained to do. The owner is rude & unprofessional. Do not recommend for any human being. I signed up for an all rounder position yet never touched the coffee machine even though I have 2 + years of barista experience; I was told to stay on the register for my whole shift every shift so taking customers orders for 8 hours a day isn’t fun at all. Glad I’m done and dusted with that place!

Cafe Worker (Former Employee) - Craigieburn VIC - 4 February 2022
Was the most disgusting place to work ever. So under paid along with no breaks and tips are kept by the boss. Management is completely rude and proper training or information is never given. The hygiene is disgusting and wouldn’t buy anything from there. Nothing is properly cleaned.
Pros
Make your own food n drinks
Cons
No break Horrible pay Horrible management Rude management No proper training Tips are kept

great place to work for a short time.
Server (Former Employee) - Chatswood NSW - 1 February 2022
A nice place to work, for the short time I worked there I can say that it was fast paced but overall it was ok. The management was not the best and can be improved.

Worst experience of work in my life
Cafe all rounder (Former Employee) - Miranda NSW - 6 October 2021
I had have previous jobs in the past and would thought it would be a great opportunity to work there when I got asked to come in for the interview. only if I had gotten a warning about what I was about to experience. worst management and staff ever seen, so rude and had no professionalism. I had felt so unfordable the whole shift. sent me home an hour early. expected me to know what I was doing without training me whatsoever and not even online training. I was supposed to work the following day and had my shift cancelled. very unprofessional. ALL STAFF IS EXTREMELY RUDE
Pros
nothing.
Cons
poor management, no one explained anything.

Very clique-y environment, food safety is ignored, management is late a majority of the time and if you complain about any of the poor conditions you will be threatened with dismissal.
Pros
Free coffee
Cons
Poor management

Not a friendly workplace
Cashier & Floor Staff (Former Employee) - Joondalup WA - 27 July 2021
Was not a friendly nor welcoming workplace. The baristas and managers were not polite at all. Didn’t get paid more on a public holiday nor on a Sunday. Didn’t get a break on a 6 hour shift.
Pros
Free drinks on shift
Cons
Rude staff

Horrible
Waitress (Former Employee) - Miranda NSW - 18 May 2021
It's the worst place I've ever worked at. The bosses are not nice people. You'd get yelled at for things that weren't to do with you while they stood around doing nothing. Majority of the people who worked there felt like their owners didn't like them and they weren't sure why. They would talk down to us and not give clear instructions. Every time shift I got I would be so anxious to go and I wanted to quit after my first few shifts. When I got the job some of my friends told me similar stories about when their friends used to work there and they all left after a few weeks.
Cons
Everything

Productive but unhealthy culture and confusing management
Overall the culture was rude to customers if they were frustrating or different. No formal online training was adhered to unless asked about. Multiple occasions were salary was questioned and rejected.
Pros
Free Coffee and discounted food
Cons
No formal training and unclear management

awful bosses
Cafe all rounder (Former Employee) - Miranda NSW - 20 June 2020
The salary was the only positive of working at Jamaica blue Miranda. Illegal hours & breaks, bosses constantly verbally abusing you, I can easily say work was something which I dreaded. Of course, you need to earn your bosses trust, but that seemed like a constant chore for me and many other co-workers. All you need to do is look at how many other employees have quit in the last year, and that will tell you all you need to know. Employers like young, impressionable teens, looking for their first job.
Pros
Wage
Cons
Abusive bosses, understaffed, anger is taken out on employees, long shifts, no breaks, expectation of working overtime without being asked
